IMO games are not time wasted. Long ago they became a more effective medium for storytelling than cinema, so I look at them as thesame as watching movies or reading fiction.
Granted, this may also be copium-huffing on my part, combined with a long part of my career in the industry.

Good for you!!! You can do it!! Be sure to reward yourself as you go through the quitting process. I quit cold turkey 27 years ago when I was 45. Bought a new Harley Davidson at my 3 month mark and rode the hell outta that bike. Yea, you might be a bit edgy at times, but it gets easier the longer you go…. Hang in there…. Tootsie Pops worked wonders for those times when my hand would subconsciously go to my mouth.

last time i was a smoker (late 90s) a pack cost USD$3.25 — just looked it up and in NY a pack is $12 
— my then close to 2 pack a day habit would have bankrupted me now.
the one thing i will say by way of encouragement is that quitting smoking is extremely easy*: all you have to do is not smoke. i found something like losing weight to be much harder, since you still have to eat to live.
(*please note that by “easy” i mean “the hardest easy thing ever”).

Games like Red Dead 2 … where it is Character Development … and bad guy goes good… ( opposite of Breaking Bad ) … for sure… But shit like Destiny and Warframe… I was just burning time in “the grind”
Red Dead 2 will still be the best game I ever played.

Most often the two go “hand in hand”. I did the same when I quit smoking…. It actually does help quitting either one easier by doing both together…
