Yes. Another example would be the Linnstrument.
My brain hurts. I guess itās sort of that is to keyboard as Chapman stick is to bass and I could get over it if I tried, maybe.
The grid layout is actually not unique, thereās several controllers like that. The Linnstrument is different because MPE support.
Yeah, that was my first suggestion also. But, it seems, @Billn is not ready to swap out his DAI just yetā¦
UA Volt and Roland Rubix are other possible choices.
6 months later and with some Nord GAS in between I decided this is a 2+ phase problem with a total budget tbd but at least up to the $1500 Roland/Yamaha/etc stage pianos now. It might also reside in our living room and have a ācan be played without a computerā requirement which is pushing towards stage keyboard instead of midi controller here.
For the short term I ordered an arturia keylab essentials 61 key for my office and Iāll just suffer with a synth keybed for now . I really want enough keys to actually play on a midi controller for learning by ear practice and general music usefulness, and Iām willing to spend $250 now but not my $1500 to absurd budget for weighted keys.
After six months Iām pretty sure this doesnāt count as an impulse purchase though!
The keylab 61 is an excellent choice though, the Essentials is a good starter controller. I use a KeyLab Mk.II 61 myself.
Iāll give you absolutely terrible odds for betting on whether I own pigments by the the of the year.
Itās a really good synth. You could have bought mine on the cheap!
I still think itās one of the best looking synths ever made too.
Since you own the KeyLab you should get Analog Lab for free. Analog Lab is super cool, basically V Collection Lite. Decent piano in there too.
Iāll get someone elseās or a black Friday sale or something probably assuming I like living in the arturia ecosystem.
Yeah recommend waiting for an Arturia sale. They do them all the time anyway, even outside of Black Friday. You should be able to get it for $99 or less.
Meanwhile, Analog Lab is more than enough to keep you busy, and itās free. Careful though as itās the best advertisement for V Collection imaginable.
I think I can resist. Iām not doing production enough stuff to really get pulled by V collection Iām pretty sure.
(Famous last words)
V Collection definitely varies by synth - some (like SQ80-V) are perfect, others less so. Still a very cool collection though.
Analog Lab gives you like 6000 presets from it. More than enough to get started

Iāll just suffer with a synth keybed for now
Ok this key feel is actually quite tolerable.
Getting it to play nice with reaper was more of an adventure than I expected, but hopefully I only need to figure that out once.

Ok this key feel is actually quite tolerable
See? So next GAS is for a Nord then?

Meanwhile, Analog Lab is more than enough to keep you busy, and itās free. Careful though as itās the best advertisement for V Collection imaginable.
Can attest - to both points
Iām not saying no, but not anytime soon. I think a Roland rd88 or Yamaha ck88 or equivalent will get me to good enough for 1/4 the price, butā¦
Also Nord makes weighted keyboards as an option donāt they?

Also Nord makes weighted keyboards as an option donāt they?
For their pianos (Nord Piano 6, Nord Grand, etc) for sure. Not sure for (say) the Nord Lead A1.
@howard @joergkutter itās hard to tell the practical difference between V collection intro and pro. If Iām not looking at any of the missing synths as something Iām looking for is V collection intro a big step up from analog lab?

itās hard to tell the practical difference between V collection intro and pro.
Yes, itās confusing⦠in fact, I got confused as well
I own the Analog Lab Pro plug-in (and I got hooked with the free Analog Lab Play).
It is a bewildering variety of plug-ins that Arturia offers. I am sure Howard has a better overview though
I guess the V Pro is the BIG one. For example, I can use all the many patches/sounds in Analog Pro (and slightly tweak them), but I donāt own the synths they come from. V Pro might give you access to all the underlying synths!?
Sorry if I only increased the level of confusion! @howard to the rescue!!
Ah, so itās all confusing, not just me thatās confused!
