The two that have the natural wood color, with the quilted top edge outlined, look like they have extra body contours but they don’t. They don’t photograph well and look kind of funky in pictures IMO. They do look much nicer in person.
The 504 has a really nice subtle look to it. I really like the original brown 504 too, almost bought one. Cool very light woodgrain effect, satin finish.
Yup. She’s freakin BAAAD. But you would need to be to play for Prince. Anyway the Jazz pickup and looks like an MM or Soapbar on the bridge…interesting combo. I have a P and MM on my Schecter
It is an MM and there is a switch where you can choose between just using one row of coils (more like a Jazz) or both (more like a MM). Obviously, the second option gives you more punch.
Hmmm…that is a cool option, and unique combo of pickups. I don’t quite have GAS for it, but a funky short scale option that still gives me some neck pickup options…I might like that…still would have to find a way to demo it to see if I like the feel.
Dang…I do love my slapping. That said…I didn’t like the MM I tried out even though I thought I would fall in love. So much to consider. And I still want my Schecter Riot 4, have little funds to do this with, and less and less patience from the wife! Musician problems!
I think they look good too. That’s a good picture! Most pictures you see of the natural finished ones are head on, so the quilt edge makes it look like funky extra contours, which they don’t look like in person at all.
It’s one of the pics that Sweetwater emailed me before they shipped it. I agree that the angled view is much better at showing what it looks like. It sounds great too. It’s a nice change of pace from my Epiphone EB-0 or my Fender Mustang PJ.
Coming back to this, how is it possible that the Ray34 weighs over 11 lbs (a total nonstarter for me) while the EBMM is under 8?
What did they do, fill the thing with lead or something? 3lbs is a big difference, even for different woods. The person that posted that weight had the black mahogany one, so it will be basically maximum weight, but still. All the other reports I saw were still over 10 for the thing. That’s like a pound more than a BB.
Not considering one myself but I had noticed how light the new EBMM’s are and was impressed. Then I checked the Ray34
toby will know more than me on this, but when they redid the stingray a few years back the main emphasis was on making it lighter. the sterlings obviously did not get the same treatment.
The Stingray Classic turned into the Stingray special. They use the Hipshot light weitght tuners, you can see the bridge is smaler, and IDK what else they did, but the Special is lihter.
That said, My SLO Special weighs about as much as my Ray4, and Idk the exact weight, but neither are heavy.
My B-4E I think is the same or a little heavier.
Yes, I think my Ray 34 is heavier then both, but it doesn’t seem like it is that heavy, I will have to try to weigh them all.
The 2002 Stingray Classic 4 does seem to be the heaviet of the bunch, that is noticeable pretty quickly.
My Ray34 was when they started making them in Sterling and making better quality, and it was older like 2010. IDK if it is lighter or heavier then today’s Ray34 or not.
The overall reduction in weight is a much-welcomed feature of the new Stingray Special. Select body woods, improved contours, and lightweight hardware provide greater overall balance for extra comfort and a more enjoyable playing experience.
So yeah, maybe some contours are hidden and it is cored out a bit??
I think the tuners themselves were close to a lb lighter.
