Had a guy here a while back ranting about how he had solved P=NP and how everybody was ignoring his “solution”. Made some disparaging comments about various C-levels and promptly got reallocated to /dev/null. ![]()
If that is what it takes to be a grumpy old man - I welcome it proudly with all my of heart!!!
It’s just that I haven’t seen one project going well in the last 15 or so years.
In the 90s we did not even dare to not be in time or not be within budget. We always went the extra mile to deliver the best product possible. It was our code of honour! I met some crazy good people, especially when was in gaming development!
Now, with all those tools available, with ready made frameworks and all that - nothing is on time. Budgets are overspent substantially (in my industry that means: millions!). People spend more time in bullshit bingo meetings and throwing around meaningless buzzwords in colourful presentations than actually develop something outstanding.
I attribute that to the MVP-thinking (among other things). The minimal (!!!) … viable (!!!) … product.
There is not much confidence in that expression, right?
how to create the most popular thread in history on bassbuzz where everyone is an I.T. guy
I don’t know about over there, but on this side of the pond (not in software) we do a lot of paying for tech debt/short term solutions that goosed the quarterly numbers and now are a problem for anything new. I blame Jack Welch - became the most famous CEO in the world by extracting all the value from GE and breaking the tradition of investing in the future.
Hey, @Wombat-metal and I at least (I’m sure there are more) are physical stuff guys!
Or Carly Fiorina. Ask anyone at HP at the time.
Same here! True for all digital projects/products I know of…
Man, that sucks. I’m really sorry to hear that, Al. I can see how that would leave a bad taste in your mouth about Hipshot customer support.
Not everyone on here is a computer nerd ![]()
And many BassBuzzers might be Bots anyway ![]()
Again, no proof of more than one bassbot on this forum, just a limp conspiracy theory.
I couldn’t care less what’s going on under my Mac’s hood as long as it pushes pixels fast and easy. And that it does.
You see this kind of attitude in a lot of successful companies, who feel their stuff don’t stink and they have more customers than product and so don’t care. It sux.
It will catch up with them
We were a small health ins. co. that got bought out by a bigger one. As a small company we considered ourselves, and still do, Agile, we got stuff done, every vendor we worked with was always impressed at how fast (and correctly) we made stuff happen compared to anyone else.
It’s why the bigger company bought us. And over the last 3 years they have systematically destroyed our abilities to get stuff done with the above bingo meetings. Frustrating as all hell.
I’ve worked for both ends, startups, and the largest company in the world. Both have their issues. Every place has issues, you pick what you can put up with. Now I work in a small regional hospital which is the only game in the county and what I do makes a difference instead of making shareholders profits bigger. Pretty content.
I think the more important question here is, where’s the UPS driver?

no joke about the fingerprint magnet.
Umm - to stay vaguely in topic, photo taken with an Apple iPhone 14 ![]()
Now might be a good time to dust off those set up videos and give it a good once over.
Also, that should go over in the bass porn thread as well.
That’s exactly what I’ve been doing for the last hour ![]()
