Thereby generating press stories over it and making people hunt out YT versions of it to see what the fuss is all about. Free advertising. Sorry, just cynical on marketing
Steve Jobs was entirely integral to Appleās marketing. He insisted on excellent creative and messaging that was concise and on point.
āFor the rest of us.ā
āIt just works.ā
Paraphrasing, the gist of the instruction he gave his engineers when he charged them to design the iMac was, āMake something that will allow Grandma to get on the Internet within 10 minutes of opening the box.ā
He routinely rejected ideas from the many ad agencies he hired because they werenāt clear or clever or just off-base of the laser-like vision he had of the companyās products.
Tim Cook is not like Steve in this respect. He delegates, as most CEOs do, sometimes to a fault, as in the case of this recent commercial.
I do marketing for tech company clients. Many donāt want to rock the boat, creatively, but some do. This recent Apple ad was essentially one of the latter. But the boat they set out to rock sank like a fucking stone because it graphically depicted the puzzling destruction of valuable and creatives-revered musical instruments and art.
It was a classic messaging misstep and horrific marketing mistake that Steve would never have approved of in a million years.
If the ad agency didnāt get canned forthwith, their creative director should have. This was blatant malpractice that should never have been allowed to happen.
Many people have a visceral reaction to the destruction of instruments. I thought āwow, think of all the poor kids who could have played thatā when I watched. Itās a shame.
They went to Africa for photo shoot or event while the he brought along a prototype iPad, handed it the kids theyāve never seen such device before in minutes they started swiping and make gestures on the iPad. How remarkable is that.
Not gonna lie Iām not a big fan of Tim but heās nowhere near the level of Steve Ballmer.
I think all of you who keep windows for gaming should at least try out linux too. I have never liked macos. I have a few years in fixing their phones but never liked the UI and never figured out how to use it comfortably. Everything always seemed out of place. Ever since I rage quit windows years ago I have found linux to be a nice peaceful kind of place. Iām no computer nerd but I have figured out that some things get done much faster in the terminal too. I have been running an arch based distro with xfce for years and even though itās bleeding edge as far as updates I have never had issues with it. Games also run mostly the same or better than on windows. If you also like mac you can try gnome desktop for a more familiar feeling. Back when I first started using linux there was some stupid glitch with graphics drivers in windows and in less than five minutes I was playing that same game on linux and never looked back. I still have to use windows on my work computer and it feels like a chore to be honest. Itās managed and stripped of the adds but still slow and clunky. Since I donāt use any I have no idea what music or video processing software is available on linux but for everything I have ever needed there has been an easy to install app for it.
I think I get that people feel like apple has a nice streamlined ecosystem and to each his own. But I also think that you shouldnāt suffer windows either. MS really doesnāt seem to have a lot going for them today in my opinion.
