Apple Vision Pro

So, I just got back from an ultra short trip to the US and there are already guys walking around with these AR headsets. Dude stepped onto the plane at JFK grinning like a madman - goofy look for lotsa dollars.

I wonder though how this will impact learning instruments and making music…
:face_with_monocle:

I can imagine this would work nice for learning piano.

You know how you learn to play and instrument and make music? By playing the instrument and making music. There just is no fast/easy way around that :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

This tech will make a difference, to be sure.

How quickly, and to what immediate effect, remains to be seen.

Stay tuned for future developments…

I dunno… With that price tag, it’s certainly not on my shopping list :joy:

Pure VR has failed to find a market in every iteration it has been tried, and we’re on the third or fourth I remember now.

But Apple’s AR approach is more interesting than prior attempts and if anyone can do it, it’s Apple that will pull it off.

If Apple fails with this one, no one would succeed and we can probably just put VR/AR to bed as yet another failed dream from ‘80s cyberpunk scifi.

I never intended my post to imply that this might be a short-cut to avoid practicing. However, it can potentially add new possibilities to learning the instrument and songs and so on…

Most likely - yes! These guys look quite weird when you meet them in “public”… despite the coolness factor and the very well done demos, it still looks quite clunky.

I saw a clip somewhere where people were overtaking a Tesla Cybertruck and the “driver” had left the driving to the autopilot and was instead wearing the Vision Pro googles and manipulating icons etc in the air in front of her

I saw the same thing and just wished for the human extinction asteroid strike to happen

I’m guessing you could do tabs on steroids. Look at the fret board and the place you put your fingers lights up on time. Definitely a pro for getting through that phase of needing to slowly look through music then count frets. I’d have to think about whether there are any cons besides how much lighter your wallet is and limited repertoire, at least at first. Tab already needs transcription for talking to anyone who doesn’t play the same instrument, so it’s probably about the same.

i thought marques brownlee’s review was a good perspective on it:

I’m waiting for the inevitable Gibson Joe Bonamassa PRS Blues lawyer version.

Less will be learned, cause they will all be watching porn.

From the reviews on it that I’ve read, it’s kind of a lonely place to hang out right now. If Apple opens it up to allow multiple people in to share a single space, I could see it being cool for people in different geographic locations to jam together as long as latency isn’t an issue.

Lol. You can already watch porn all day on your cell phone though so I doubt that actually moves the needle.

Is that code???

Definitely code for me spending too much time in business meetings

With all respect, I guess that is where you might lack some imagination :joy::smile: And, yes, while porn might be a driver (once again), there will be usages of this technology in other fields (including teaching, learning and making music) that we haven’t really thought of yet (which was kind of my point in the original post).

Many said the same thing. It’s not for everyday Joe Schmo. In fact apple probably don’t want people to buy this. It’s more for developers and what can come out of this. Even apple knows that the tech is not available for the AR goggles yet but it gotta start somewhere. I can’t wait till 5-6 more generations of this.

In all likelihood by the 3rd gen 50% would probably buy them already.

Yeah, it’s certainly not for me, no SteamVR, no Bueno :joy:
Meta Quest 3’s good enough for me lol

I do know at least one IT tech whose money is already spent on it as soon as it’s available in the UK though lol

This is where the current iteration of VR has ended up, in fact. Gamers didn’t want it (other than a tiny very vocal minority).
