Apple Vision Pro

I haven’t bought into any of the VR sets so far (I am in tech so I’ve kept my ear to the rail). This one has my attention though. I’m not all that interested in getting in on the first gen. I’ll let folks with more disposable income than me be the guinea pigs. Thirty five hundred is a well equipped Macbook pro, I don’t hate on the price for what it is. I’d like to let it breathe a bit and see where it goes first.

For one thing this system will take rocksmith concept to the next level also introduce better learning concept that we have not even imagined.

I can see it works right away with the synthesia style on the piano and keyboards. I’m pretty certain it will take practicing to the whole new level starting with how you can now perform in front of audiences in a famous venues. We’ve seen the Keynotes app already show us the glimpse of the possibilities.

Porn has always driven the Consumer Electronics industry. It was an open secret that the Adult Video Awards were co-hosted with CES (the Consumer Electronics Show) for nearly 20 years. Oh yeah all those execs doing their “business travel” every year to CES? Hur hur hur.

They stopped for a while, but started it again last year:

The top electronics convention, flying in all the marketers and execs. The top porn show, flying in all the actors and actresses. In Vegas. At the same time. Yeah, real zesty. Every year.

I’m sure the ladies on the strip made out like bandits. So to speak.

As someone that’s learning major and minor scales atm, I think it’d be pretty neat to have the tab in my field of view with the passthrough video while I’m looking at my fretboard.

He’s not even a little bit wrong though. Secure web browsing was developed (edit: not developed, introduced to the masses is what I meant) by the porn industry, online shopping… yep you guessed it.

It’s totally true. People even used to talk about it - at work - back in the '90s.

I kind of want a vr headset for flight simulator, but it’s just a lot of money for not much use.

There’s actually a financial times reporter who made a podcast series about this!

Just make sure you don’t get motion sickness. Any kind of motion in VR that is involuntary makes me sick.

That just isn’t true. It is not really mainstream, true. But that was to be expected, as the headsets are still quite expensive.

But it has found its niche, just like sim racing or flight simulators have their niche. New head sets are released constantly, again, you won’t hear so much about them as they are mostly targetted for enthusiasts or arcades.

Yeah, maybe I am part of that vocal minority. But saying VR ended up in porn is just wrong.

Oh VR is definitely in porn. And with all due respect to my fellow gamers out there, I would not want to take bets on games having higher usage for VR there.

For example, VR market penetration on Steam is about 3%. I know that the enthusiasts like it a lot, but it’s a very small slice.

We just pushed in to the second decade of the latest round of VR gaming - the Rift shipped in 2013. The first commercial gaming headset I remember was in the early ‘90s. It’s been around forever but never grew out of its niche, unfortunately.

If anyone can do it though, it’s Apple. And their AR focus is a bit different.

Time for a classic

Hmm… this is getting out of hand quickly…

Why does it seem the most likely to afford all this, also seem to be the least responsible with it :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

From what I’ve experienced the only people wearing these out and about are hypebeast clout chasing bros who likely worship at the altar of Elon. I can see a use case, sort of, if you are alone in your goon cave but otherwise not quite sure, especially at the price point.

Mo money, mo sense of entitlement.

Here where I live, we often say “If you ever feel useless, remember there’s a guy working for BMW, whose job it is to install the turn signals.”

It’s amazing how when some asshat on the road does something incredibly rude/stupid/dangerous - the overwhelming majority of them are driving BMWs.

It’s an expensive toy that for most people isn’t nearly as practical as a phone… and it’s something that most people just don’t want or care about beyond it being “cool”. I expect that at best, it’ll be about as popular as 3D televisions were.

Microsoft Hololens is an impressive product but they realized there wasn’t enough demand for it in the consumer market. Apple is better at convincing people to buy things they don’t really want… msft sucks at promoting their products and staying with them long enough to see success

I dont see the vision pro ever being very popular outside of tech nerds who are already heavily invested in apple products and have lots of money to burn on “cool” stuff. Seeing the rate that they’re being laid off this last year, that market is likely shrinking too…

I haven’t even heard anyone talking about the vision pro lately… when i ask someone what the thing is called, nobody even knows lol
