So, do they have little booths where you could test-drive these basses? Are they all set up (more or less)? Can you reach all those basses or do they need to get them down for you with some contraption (some look like they are hanging fairly high up)?
Just did a quick search, apparently they had this one there on the floor, and I definitely didn’t see it because if I had there’s no way I would have passed up a shot. That’s a nice looking J.
Well… it is kinda stealthy looking Pretty cool indeed!!
It certainly isn’t! But ordering from Japan to Europe is unfortunately pretty much out of the question - it has nothing to do with shipping costs, and everything to do with customs and taxes that they WILL slap onto the instrument
Yeah I was hoping to see that FGN today! It’s in their store across town though. That one looks like a keeper.
The Squier Classic Vibe '70s was just fine. I liked it a lot. It would need a little work. The pickup actually sounded fine but I would probably change the pots. And I would definitely need to satin out that neck. Color was walnut, which was quite nice but wasn’t my favorite compared to all the cute pastel Fenders, but all in all is a very sharp looking total package.
The MIM Fender P I tried (stock Player in Buttercream) was of course really nice, pretty standard P-Bass. Liked it a lot. 41mm nut, very nice slim satin neck.
The MIJ Hybrid II (in Forest Blue) was even nicer, as you would expect; 42mm nut, still a Modern C, great feeling satin neck. Apparently its pickup is Single Coil? Weird but sounded great. It could also just be weird Fender nomenclature. They variously call their normal P’s split-coil and split single coil. This one they called “Hybrid II Custom-Voiced Single Coil P Pickup.”
All three had nice maple fingerboards. Pretty much your standard Fender look, especially the two Fenders which were in pastel-like colors. Hardware was definitely better on the Fenders, especially the tuners and pots.
I’m so so so happy with my edwards P (go Ikibe!) (for rounds on a P) that I don’t need another for whatever. And I love the CS Fender that has the flats part of the P world solidly taken. My gold and red MIM is the one I might sell (or strip back and sell in stock condition) as I don’t have a need for it with the other two, the Les Claypool pickups in it just don’t do much different for me as of yet.
