I own 6 Aeros and I think all the new ones are fugly.
I go for the MIJ/CIJ flame top ones, but - if you are looking for color options past flame tops, the non-export Aero colors are the way to go for sure.

I love the flame tops - but I havenā€™t seen any in my desired budget range whereas a few (always red) MIJ solid colors always seem to be out there.

Oh yeah. Do it. If Iā€™m ever in Japan, Iā€™m buying exactly that one and smuggling it back home without paying taxes, duties or shipping costs. Then I will be happy in the knowledge that I wonā€™t need any other basses. You know, for a while.

The 604 is a great bass to last forever, in fact. Itā€™s a nice intermediate-range bass. You could do anything with it.

Hmm doesnā€™t that switch makes the bridge pickup HH? Seems like a typical HH/J or J/J configuration.

I love the tone from a single HH pickup.

Shijie DF4. About $629 new. Should be extremely high quality. Made in Hong Kong, lots of MIJ parts. Love the Yamaha/Schecter looks.

Nope, but thereā€™s some extremely high quality instruments made in China/HK - wouldnā€™t write them off. Shijie is roughly MIA Fender quality.

Thereā€™s a lot of good options if you are confident enough to ship internationally. Take my FGN (which has the PV 63s installed now). The cavities are all coated in an anti magnetic paint and have a ground wire screwed in running back to ground.

So when I went to remove the pickups, I had five ground wires to contend with, which was unexpected, but thatā€™s really quality. For a bass that wasnā€™t that expensive
