Bass Porn

Just checked: they’re available for pre-order at Thomann. These guys are seriously badass. Forget Sweetwater or any other eventually would-be players. Thomann is cheaper and they rock the house.

I’m seeing $735 at Thomann for the 4-string M6 in sandblasted black, with shipping costs being extra. Can’t seem to get an actual shipping cost to the US without pressing “Buy Now”.

It’s also available for pre-order at Chicago Music Exchange, whom I’ve also had great experiences with and have bought a few Sires from. Their price is $859 and includes shipping.

Does purchasing from Thomann exclude VAT, and do you have to pay import duties? I will have to look back at previous orders to see if I was charged sales tax from CME or not.

American purchasers do not pay VAT when ordering from Thomann. Also, a duty fee is not charged on the first $800 of a purchase. For example, if the purchase price of an item is $810, a duty would be charged on $10.00 only.

In the estimation of US Customs duty, a charge for shipping is separate and does not add to the purchase price of a foreign order. Additionally, no sales tax applies to the purchase.

I think CME does charge sales tax, as does Sweetwater, etc.

As a test, I placed an M7 ($733) in a Thomann cart and got a shipping fee of $87.57. Total cost for this order would be $820.57, no duty fee, delivered to Texas.

Unfortunately, like all things, overseas shipping costs have gone up about 25 bucks per bass since I ordered my Sire U5 and, later, my M5.

I did the same to my zipcode a few months ago on a different bass and got about the shipping cost. I think I should just go ahead and start saving my allowance now. I’ve been down this GAS road before and I know how it turns out. The question is going to be which bass do I let go of to get it.

Not sure what model you are specifically looking at, but how does that compare to the shipped price from Sweetwater?

The quest was for the recently introduced Sire M6.

They haven’t been released yet, but Thomann is arguably Sire’s largest dealer and they offer the largest selection of Sires.

Seeetwater doesn’t even have them listed yet.

$735 + $90ish for shipping

It’s not on Sweetwater’s site yet but here’s a seller in the US that has it for preorder:

Sire Marcus Miller M6 4-String Headless Sandblasted Black Satin – Chicago Music Exchange

$859 + $41 tax w/ free shipping

Yep, this is a direct German-apples to US-apples comparison.

Yeah, one too many strings, but the body and neck are way cool. Makes me fretless-curious. :star_struck:

Am I a snob if I point out the f holes are in the wrong place?

Very well, I’m a snob.

It’s poetic license. The F holes are an homage to an acoustic hollow body (which this is not).

I kinda dig this one. It’s thoughtfully designed enough that it’s perversely cool.
