There’s even a contingent that prefers ceramic, actually; the perception is that ceramic Stratocaster single-coils are more chimey than Alnico. No idea if true for that style of pickup, but I have heard that several times.

Maybe I’ll find out some day if I ever get around to putting the Fender Tex Mex pups into my Pacifica… I’ve had them for about 2 years now

Many times options are just that, or what marketeers call “differentiators”. “Ours go to 11”. And people love to talk endlessly about what they have on one thing Vs another. Who remembers “fine Corinthian Leather”?
These things might not be better or worse, might be cheaper. Might be someone’s idea of better. Only you can decide if it’s better or not, for you.

I’ve basses with ceramic, others with alnico, all sound good and have their own voice.
