Best metal bass riffs?

Okay, I’m wrong. We do have a chip on our shoulders

did just dispute the list. I do not need to argue this point in the wiki history to still dispute it. I also note that you are not addressing the abject lack of meaning it brings to the genre terminology by listing Grand Funk Railroad as a metal band

I didn’t reply to this as I had never heard of them and didn’t feel qualified to answer on something I have no knowledge of

I’ve spent most of the past couple of weeks at a hospital bedside as my mother recovers from a stroke, my wife has covid, I’m recovering from eye surgery and to top it all my cat is sick.
I really don’t have the time, patience or will for this

That’s awful. I’m really sorry to hear this, and I am amazed you’re spending time online at all. I hope you and your loved ones recover well. This is a lot to carry.

You have a lot going on. Sometimes it is useful to take a step back. Tone can get lost online as well.

From a purely subjective (i.e. grain of salt, etc) standpoint, I think you are taking this discussion way more seriously than others here. Online differences of opinion are fine. This is not a hill anyone needs to die on. You have your opinion, and that’s great. Talking about opinions is fun. Let’s keep it in that spirit, okay?

Wow that’s a load. Feel for you.

Who cares what’s metal and what’s not? Geddy is one of the greats and we all agree on that.

A big hit for Grand Funk Railroad which has q driving bass line just cause it’s good music

That’s just terrible, mate. Really sorry to hear about your trials. Wishing everyone a speedy and full recovery. And lots of strength to you.

I’m going to sneak a couple of songs from my favorite Chicago (north burbs) area thrash acts from the 80s, as they were both bands that were extremely “iconic” (to me  ). (feel free to move this thread over to “share some good music” if that’s a more appropriate place for this)

I hung out and partied with the guys from Stygian (several mistakes in this write up, for example, no mention of the original drummer) at their practice spot (converted garage at the aforementioned drummer’s house) on a very regular basis. I’m not going to stroll too far down memory lane with this one, but needless to say they were (are) great guys and I highly respected their musicianship.

I was convinced these guys would “make it”, but alas they never did. The bassist had some early influences on my musical tastes and I watched him very closely when he played, which helped me learn when I was just starting out (the first time around… heh).

Anyways, here’s one of my favorites by them:

Here’s one from a local “techno-thrash” group that also, never really made it, called Wrath (they did have a song on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre III move soundtrack though, “When Worlds Collide”). Saw them many times over the years, including recently. They play mostly local shows and put on an excellent performance, great energy and they are extremely tight live. Current album was released by Combat Records, currently owned by David Ellefson.

Anyways, here’s a fun one from Wrath from their earlier days.

And more recent

Was listening to music as I was dropping the kids off a school and the most hard hitting, neck breakingly awesome heavy metal song of all time came on. Can’t skip this one for this list:

Im working on thos now. Gpt about 80% down.
