Couch Bass?

Mind you, I come from the blackstar bass, which has a 23.46" (596mm) scale.
I loved it!
I think it mainly sounds reasonably grown up, cause of it’s thick strings (125-105-85-65). Not all mini basses have that, so they sound thin…
(Ok, and cause I put an active EMG pickup on the thingy. There was space enough for the battery, so why not?)

But - at least in my case - playing a 30" on the sofa is very convenient and sounds much better. I sit on the left side of the sofa (like Sheldon Cooper), so my girlfriend is not bothered by the bass.

I have the short scale on a little stand next to the the sofa, so I can play instantly, when the bass gods demand for it.

I still love my little Blackstar, but I haven’t played it here in da house, since switching to 30".
I’m sure that it will get some love when I will go on vacation by plane again. But not before…

Well my custom 23” string is perfect for that. Form factor wise it’s the shortest one.

The bonus being standard tuning and with Dogal set of strings it sounds like the regular full scale bass across the tonal spectrum at the regular familiar gauge 125-45 on my 5 string.

This is how it stood up to the 5 string powerhouse I own. The Nathan East and the Modulus are just monstrous and this one just matched the tone.

Do I remember correctly, that it costs about 200€? Where can I get that?

I think string by mail or givmesomstring has them. The 4 string is much cheaper like $140

Or, for those of us that don’t have the bread to drop on those beautiful custom’s, here’s another 23" option.

@BozzerWolf has one of those, but as far as I know he only hangs his basses on the wall and doesn’t play them

yes indeed :+1:

Wow! This is interesting. Wonder ho much shipping.

Looks like both UPS and DHL are about $90 to Colorado. Not bad for a couch bass where it probably won’t get plugged in a lot.

This was one of the first suggestions. I haven’t found a US Distributor yet.

PS - I have never bought anything from Thoman. But shipping to the US, might still be cheaper than finding it for sale in US.

@Whying_Dutchman Du mich auch🤣

It will arrive tomorrow, that’s what DHL says…

I expect that bass to be your travel bass for a vacation in Hamburg

Almost, the vacation is in Uruguay. But maybe this year I’ll make it with the bike to Hamburg. It’s still on my agenda

It arrived today and it was terrible I returned it already. The peg for the e string had an issue, it was almost impossible to tune. The intonation was also very bad, on the twelve fret F# instead of E. I bought it as new but I think it was b-stock. I ordered now the Kala that @Barney has mentioned, it will arrive on Saturday🤞

That is a bummer. But, if return was relatively little hassle, sounds like Plan B might even be better. Thanks for sharing

I would strongly suggest to have a look at the Blackstar:

The tuners on the Kala @BozzerWolf are the weakest part of the bass. Not bad but not anything like as premium as the Hipshot’s I’m used to.

Intonation was fine for me.
