Dealing with Reverb Support is frustrating

Correct, they did offer a refund and facilitated a shipping label. I guess it’s the rare color that has me stuck on this. Hell, I was thinking one could prob refinish a Talman pretty easily.

@Barney did refinish one!

I think at this point you either have to send it back or keep it and eat the cost of repair. You’ll have to ask yourself how bad you want it.

Have you contacted Ibanez? They might warranty it

It’s not a new bass so I don’t think so. I peeked at their website and it’s only a one year warranty and I think this guy was built a couple years ago at least. Also only for the original owner, which I am not.

Also I think I should state that these folks have been a bit rude and contentious in the correspondence we’ve had regarding this so that had me pretty riled up yesterday. It took a few messages back and forth where it seemed they were blaming me for the damage or trying to divert with statements like “We ship 1000s of instruments and rarely have problems” - I didn’t get a Sorry about that until the 3rd or 4th message.

Doesn’t seem like good customer service to me regardless of the fact that they are offering a return label and refund. They might be able to write this off somehow instead of giving me a partial refund. Ugh.

I engaged Reverb Support and they pretty much said continue working with the seller towards a resolution but I don’t think these guys are gonna budge. I went back to the seller and asked why they are taking this stance and now waiting for a reply.

Did you remove the pots? If it’s not bend I would just take the costs for a pair of new pots and be done with it. If it’s bend you should prob return it.

I always consider how much of a hassle it would be to return vs fix it myself. Especially with cheaper products.

I put a picture a few replies back - one pot is quite bent and the other is only slightly bent. I have not removed them from the body as Reverb’s return policy states you cannot make modifications or they can deny your return.

These pots are like $22 each since they are PCB mounted preamp guys… ooof

I may ask them for just a $50 partial refund and see if they’ll bite.

Yeah I have seen that picture. I was just curious if the rod under those pots (not sure what the correct English word is) is bent too. That would take some force. In that case even replacing the knobs would become an issue.

Good luck! Hope you get a response soon

If they have such an throughput of instruments, they probably will fix the damage with parts they have lying around and sell the bass for something like $20 to $30 off.
Chances are you won’t be able to agree on a price both parties are happy with.

Did you happen to read their shop policies before buying?
Did it mention that they only take things back and don’t offer up money off, etc?
@Malyngo may be spot on here.

I was thinking if they can claim the damage with FedEx and keep the damaged merch then they may just do that. it’s a nice double dip, right?

Yeah, this is the case. They very plainly told me “Fedex now owns it and you get a full refund.”
They expect me to ship it back and don’t seem to care about my satisfaction level.

I did. They offer 30 days returns under normal circumstances. There isn’t any specific language about damage.

I talked to my guitar tech buddy and he thinks he may be able to straighten them out a bit. He’ll prob do it for free so I’m considering that option.

That’s funny I was thinking yesterday of asking if the knobs still work (I had incorrectly assumed that you sent it back already). If they work fine, I think it adds some character to the bass–call it “road worn.” But I’m one of those guys that thinks wear-and-tear can look good on a bass.

On the other hand, I totally dig the “principle-based approach” on the whole mess though.

Got a terrible one today.

Yesterday I had an inquiry about the bass I listed on Reverb and after a couple of back and forth Q&A I had an offer, I countered then it was purchased.

I went home taking all of the pictures along the way while packing the bass. Sent the pictures of the finished packaged along with the tracking number. I told him I’d dropped it off first thing in the morning.

This morning I dropped off the package after I dropped off my kids to school, I sent him the picture of the tracking receipt. He asked if I had the old tuners and electronics I upgraded, I said no. Then he ask when the pickups and electronics were install I could have told him the date or the months but I had the picture so I posted. The picture shown the black shielding paint under the bridge and pickups.

He saw an opportunity then launch into it. He said that black paint, my listing said nothing about black paint. I said it’s shielding paint underneath. He repeats, I said you can’t see it it’s under the bridge and pickguard. He said he couldn’t trust me because I didn’t disclose black paint,

Throughout the exchange I had a feeling that he just got the sticker shock or didn’t properly got the permission to make the purchase and try to exploit the ways to cancel and/ or return the instrument. I could only imagine the nightmare when he received it and try to return it afterwards so I cut my loss and call UPS store to hold my package and I’ll be by to pick it up.

What a wast of time, Thanks for your listening eyes. I feel much better now,

You know this is the second time it happened the first time on another bass the husband made the purchase, then hours later after I finished packing everything the wife got on the messaging and pleading for a cancellation, I did of course. That one was too funny.

“Wait - you can’t trust me?” lmao

Yeah, He probably look at other listing drop in price and had second thoughts. While mine is the most expensive but it’s the best value. I upgraded Hipshot tuners, brand new Aguilar pickups, brand new John East preamp.

The way he was asking the questions in the morning felt odd, it was like he was fishing for a reason to say no. Then latching on to the thing that he couldn’t even see. Sneaky pastor, If he gives me a chance Imma call him out tomorrow.

What an asshole. You’re better off shed of him, @Al1885.

I’m glad you got UPS to hold your bass. Points to you and them.
