Hi there,
Practicing a song where the guy has his bass tuned GADG, so I down tuned my E to a low G … sound is not great … normal ? Any thoughts ?
Happy bass day

That doesn’t surprise me… Low G seems quite extreme to me
Issues might be string gauge, neck length (35" might be useful) or simply the amp. Lots of amps have trouble handling really low frequencies.
Out of curiosity, what song is it you’re practicing?
Thanks …
Enola Gay - OMD
Ok, missed out on the part of tuning the E string down to G. Should definitely be string gauge. You’ll need at least .130 gauge. There’s even strings going to .175 for tuning down to F# 0
But that’s standard tuning, right?

Was expecting something else, way more doomy
Looks like an error to me. UG writes tuning down as DADG, drop D.
That tab seems completely off
Hmmm … songsterr:

UG “official” gives me something completely different

I just checked with ToneLib jam … the first tabs I posted seems to be correct!? It synched to the original track.
Did you try to play it?
No, I didn’t play it. Just wanted to help out @Laurent
This looks like some solid 8th note chugging to me.
That sounds ludicrous… wouldn’t make much sense. Even tuning a B string down to G is a bit extreme, I’d say.
Ah, yes, it must be!
I played that song in my young days… I was drumming back then (and, potentially, singing on this one
)
The kids nowadays probably don’t know who or what the Enola Gay is/was…
…old man rant off…
Pics or it didn’t happen - video would be better
You were a drum machine???!
Haha, video… we are talking 1982 or so…
Emulating one… as it were
This is a few years later (perhaps 1988):
Not far off… but, man, they even messed up the year info in that clip
(And this, children, is how you derail a thread )
Mission accomplished
Don’t want to sound like the bass grammar police. I’m just being helpful as some other bass sites would be snobbish about it. ‘Drop’ rather than ‘down’ e.g. Drop D, Drop G.
