Fear of failure/ first jam session

You would also soon discover the phenomena of the itch! All day you don’t have any itches until the first bar/measure then your arm itches, or your legs. Lol.

So, this happens tomorrow afternoon. I’ve gotten more information as the week has passed. Turns out there was a local gigging punk band here. They broke up, but one of the guitarists bought out the band’s whole p.a. rig. So apparently they not only have all their equipment, but also a recording and mixing setup.
My hopes to be able to keep up with these guys are looking grim-but I’ll go and do what i can.

I’d like to personally say thank you to each of you who have been so kind and supportive this week. While i get that we’ve never actually met, i consider all of you well, and think of you kindly.

Just because they have gear doesn’t mean they are great musicians. You’ve got this; and if they are half-way decent people, they’ll help you. Remember: they need a bass player, so they are motivated to help you fill that role.

So i asked a couple times during the week for a time to be there. I wasn’t given that, so I’m assuming they changed their minds about having me sit in.
It doesn’t really matter much, i didn’t have anything invested in it. Rather than waste the time, i set about ordering a Standalone compressor and and multi-effect DI.

I’ve been playing nothing but clean channel all this time, and mostly with everything just set flat.
So now i can start adding a little effect.

Missing one thing doesn’t mean I’m missing anything. So this one didn’t work out. They’re are always people wanting someone to play along. I’ll do it another time.

Sorry for all the hype all week, guys. And a huge thanks to everyone for all their support!

You have the right attitude but it still would have been nice of them to get back to you.

Playing in a band is one thing and playing in a jam session with random musicians is another. I gave up on bands years ago because of issues like you just experienced and it stopped being fun. Too much drama at times in a band for my liking.

Every now and again a few of us from a jam session would get together and do a gig but we never considered ourselves as a band. Just a bunch of like minded people out for the joy of playing music together and having fun.

Not sure where you live but would like to ask if you have looked into the possibility of jam sessions in your area. To me they are a lot more fun.

Sorry this didn’t work out. Keep the faith, keep practicing and don’t let this discourage you. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Bummer. The lack of communication thing can be frustrating. But most importantly…

Which compressor did ya’ get?

I bought a cheap one from Amazon. It’s a joyo. I’ve had several joyo products now, and they haven’t been studio quality, but they are good for the money spent. Them and harley/ Benton both.

I’m just starting on this part of it. I’ve got another found, but i want to experiment with them before i do a big layout on money.

I have no great advice, but I get where you’re coming from. I’ve played piano since I was a kid but never felt “good enough” to play with anyone else. I just turned 58 and have always wanted to play the bass so I decided to just do it. I could try it and fulfill a desire I’ve always had or not do it and always regret it. I don’t know if I’ll ever play with anyone else but I’m having fun with it.

Sorry it didn’t happen, I was looking forward to hearing about all the jitters fading away as you realized you were the best guy in the room. There’ll be other guys and other rooms, time to let folks know you are available.

Gotta say, I’m pretty impressed with that compressor switch. For the money spent, it’s got some impact. I’m sure it isn’t studio level-then again, neither am i.
I was told the difference was subtle, but i can really hear it. Lot of bang for your buck on that one
