Fender Mini Precision Bass

I discovered this by accident on YT, and am amazed at the “bang for the buck” that you get. (Check out the videos on it). A shoulder injury forced the sale of my American Pro II J Bass, and I then downsized to a Mustang (still expensive). But after getting this Mini the other day, I could be happy just with it. The tone, the size & weight, the relative quality and the PRICE (around $200), make this a “no brainer” IMO. If you’re not a gigging Pro, you won’t be sorry.

The minis are adorable little instruments.

there’s been a small number of bands (lesser known for sure) where the bass player’s primary is a solid body uke, you see it occasionally with kala solid’s. i don’t think you can go wrong with either the new kala solid or something like this, i haven’t played one but heard they are good. the sheer amount of rumble that comes out of my ubass always shocks people (i was getting it worked on in a guitar store once, and plugged it into an amp and a guy that worked there who was about 15 feet away’s head shot up and he said “you’re getting all that sound from THAT?”

They’ve got it on sale for $120 USD up here. I might buy it because it’s Sea Foam Green  I mean I’m not, but it’s a great price.

Nice color, mine’s black, but I like the green better. Get it. You won’t be sorry.

You’re going to love it! I mostly play shorties, but the 32” G string and the fanned frets and staggered bridge make the first fret on the other strings easily reachable. My Chihuahua Peanut has no idea what he’s lying down next to.

Someone’s selling a like new one near me for $140 cad, good thing it’s black because that’s my least favourite colour and i absolutely do not need to buy it

I have a Blackstar travel bass (the carryon blahblahblah-ish one). Very smol. Very cute and actually plays good and is even more robust (I use it while traveling).

Only downside: THICK strings (the ones to play DROP C or A#). Still worth it!

The .125 E string is the secret weapon of the Blackstar.
Last week a girl played it to some hardcore rap stuff (in Drop D), and she was like “Wooooooow”
It will be used on a gig now, so don’t underestimate the Dark Side of the Force of this E string

I tried a Squier Mini Precision Bass a couple of weeks ago at my local Guitar Center. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the feel and sound of this bass. It actually felt better than other P-Basses I tried including a Squier Sonic Precision and even the Fender American Professional II Precision Bass.
I liked it better than some of the short scale basses I tried including an Epiphone Les Paul Bass, Flight Mini, and an Ibanez miKro.
However, I didn’t like it as much as my Fender Player Mustang or the Gretsch G2220 Electromatic Junior Jet II Bass that I bought.
Still, I would recommend trying a Mini Precision Bass. You might like it even more than expected.

I’m keeping my Fender American Mustang as well, to play after my shoulder surgery. Right now, I can’t even lift my arm to tune it. Cheers

Have been able to find a gig bad for it? I’ve been looking without any luck.

I found an old gig bag in my closet that just happens to fit. I didn’t see any online.

it’s a standard sized uke bass, any bag for a solid body one would fit i would think. like one for kala.

I have the same setup as i am a 68 year old learning a new “trick”. lol.

I also just had reverse total shoulder replacement and back in the saddle again !!!

Cheers !

This is my primary bass, it’s in Dakota Red. I tried upgrading to a Mustang PJ but it was a dud. Around black friday time I might get the squier mustang.

What you liked is a “dubet series bass” 99.99999% sure that’s not a mini 28.6”
