First Concert / Last Concert

Time for an update on my last concert.
Last night I saw Gary Numan play in Salt Lake City.
I’m glad that I finally got to see Gary Numan. An energetic show and the band looked like they were having lots of fun playing.

I remember my Mom putting this record (actual vinyl) on every year on Christmas day when I was growing up while she was cooking.

My first concert was my Dad taking me to the first Lollapalooza (Jane’s Addiction, NIN) when I was 13. That has always been a really high bar to compare every other concert that I’ve ever been to. I got to see Jane’s do Ritual de lo Habitual 7 or 8 years ago, and it was cool but it just didn’t have the same energy as when we were all younger.

I’m not sure how to do the last concert. I’ve got tickets for Idles, then the Ravonettes coming up in May (different shows). Then Bikini Kill in August, and Peter Hook and the Light in September. Before that, I went to see the Cure last summer here in Denver.

I really like his new stuff. Did his daughters come along? He’s worked them in to his latest albums.

His daughters were not with him at last night’s show. Maybe they will be with him the next time I see him. Yes, I would like to see him play live again.

Another cool experience was being up close and really feeling the sounds of both Gary Numan’s band as well as the opening act, Front Line Assembly. The subwoofer on the synths, kick drums, and the bass was so powerful that it felt like wind gusts that would vibrate bodies.

I love them, one of my favorite bands. They are great live!

Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber have done so many wide ranging side projects, including huge hits with Sarah McClachlan as Delerium. Leeb was also in Skinny Puppy for a while.

My first was Lynryd Skynyrd with The Atlanta Rythmn Opening, in Jacksonville, Fl. (Skynyrd’s hometown), I think I was 14 (1975?). Ironically, the last concert was The Marshall Tucker Band at the Grand Old Opry House in Nashville, Tn. (where I live now). I toured with MTB as a tech in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, so it was also a visit with my Brothers. They’re going to be back in Nashville at The Ryman (the Motherchurch) in early May.

I do got to shows other than Southern Rock. Lol. Bonnaroo is my favorite festival.

Oh I’m jealous, I’d love to see Gary Numan.

For me - first concert was … well, my parents took me to various blues/jazz/rock festival things when I was little. But first ‘proper’ gig on my own was Pulp when I was 13. I was big into indie and britpop stuff then.

Last was IDLES if anyone knows them? They’re from Bristol where I used to live. I don’t actually listen to much of their recorded stuff, but their energy live is amazing.

I picked up on them during the Covid lockdowns. Idles and Squid (who I think are also from Bristol) are some of my favorite bands of the 2020’s. I’ll be at the Idles show in a few weeks. Very excited, I’ve heard about their live sets.

Saw him here in the UK end of last year when he did some intimate acoustic gigs which were amazing. Seeing him again in June when he is playing a setlist of the Replicas and Pleasure Principle albums

Next is Uriah Heep and Saxon tonight! we have VIP tickets which until a few hours ago, i didnt know was meet and greet. Much to my dismay, I was deployed on ships most of Saxons hay days, so I don’t know how to be cool with them guys! I am an Amon Amarth fan, so I’ll get along I guess!

Going to see Alice Cooper tonight. Saw him first time 24 years ago. Last year he was here with Hollywood Vampires, which was very cool to see so many legends together and that pirate guy.

1st concert - Ozzfest 98
Last… Probably Breaking Benjamin (oh gosh that was over 11 yrs ago… Price you pay for raising mini-lumberjacks…

My first concert was ACDC in 1988 for the Blow Up Your Video album. I think the last big name band I saw was Deep Purple. in 1992 I think, although it could have been 1994. I’ve lost all my ticket stubs, like a fool I threw them out during a clear out of the loft. I’ve seen some locals bands recently at a small rock venue where I live, and that will do for now.
