Two lists of greats, let’s see if they grow, good choices on your part.
Do you play any of the 10 listed?
My top 3 of the ten according to playing time are, Geddy I play the most by far amongst these three with Chris second lately and Jaco third. None of it is easy.
Chris was my first number 1 for decades and is and always will be on the top shelf.
I play all and everything with fingers even Chris.
Not sure if I ever told this Paul story, but here goes
I have a good friend, about 6’3", who used to work venue security after he left the Marines. He worked a venue for Wings a couple of times, and Linda banned any meat from being on site.
So down in the rear of the place at the loading docks the workers setup a grill and were making some burgers. Who wanders out there, but Paul, looking for a smoke (which Linda also banned). So he cadged a cigarette, said to my buddy “I won’t tell if you won’t tell”; my buddy handed him a burger and they hung out and ate burgers.
I’ll give Paul a run and focus heavy on the bass, its been many years, I got Beatles overload as a ut…
As I recall he was alright, very musical, I hope to find songs I’ll play.
You might try Chris. Geddy picked up the bass after going to a Yes concert and seeing Chris play. And to come full circle, after Chris passed, Geddy stood in for him at the induction performance for the Hall of Fame
So did I but I wasn’t serious enough to keep it going at the time.
Chris was my number 1 as a kid, now and always he will be in my top picks of all time.
I play Yes often, but Like Geddy playing Roundabout I use my fingers.
Better is fraught. I’m certain Iron Maiden are more influential based on how many times they’re cited as an influence by other bands/singers/acts though
Please explain what that means? It’s not 3 words used together that I’m familiar with.
If influential were to be one of the metrics then it is a valid point, no one has laid out what the metrics are.
Iron Maiden may be all that and a bag of chips, but I’ve never bought anything they have done, couldn’t name one song, and not a style I’d ever give more play time to than reaching to change the station.
Well, I think you should ask the teacher.
If you can ask and then bring the answer back here, it may really help bring this thread back on track to the subject of private lessons that may have issues to address.
If you’ve already asked the teacher, I’d love to know what they had to say about it.
I mean, please.
Please for the love of god help bring this thread back to private lessons and teachers.
Being a (good) teacher is really not an easy job at all. For instance, I wouldn’t want to be a teacher for someone like me
a) overthinking pretty much everything; b) assuming hidden agendas where there are none; c) glass-half-empty for most of the time…
How can you keep a student motivated (and having fun exploring new concepts) while still pushing them and avoiding too many short-cuts and skirting around whatever “feels” too tough all the time?!?
This all just re-enforces the notion that there can’t be any cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all solution; every student has different strengths, needs and goals. The OP’s first teacher probably thought differently…
Anyway, perhaps not directly relevant or helpful for the OP, but just a point-of-view from a teacher here (though not in music)
