Flat wound vs round wound strings

My skin is super dry which I think is the problem. Not much oils there to reduce the friction so the increased contact area over rounds feels grippy to me.

The TI round is remained to be seen but unless I drop my bass flat (pun intended )in the string side these would last forever. Not only they would sound better the feel better as they aged too.

You just need to eat some kind of fried food while you’re playing

Yeah exactly. If I bought the T-I flats and didn’t hate them, they would be forever strings. But based on past experience trying flats on other basses, it’s a big risk

I’ve got psoriasis all over and live in a high plains / almost desert environment. I think it’s just a feel thing my dude. I love flats and those TI flats sound perfect since a majority of what I want to play should have that bright, punchy sound to it.

Yep, that was my take on 'em, too. TI Jazz Flats fixed everything. :+1:

I couldn’t find a video I saw where the bass player was playing some crazy solo and his fingers go so dry he kept wiping on top of his nose to get lubricant. That was crazy. I do that when I know that my strings are clean. It’s the best string lube.

I still haven’t put my 0760M flats on my pbass, I think i’ve had them for about 1.5 years now lol I lost one of them for a while and now i’ve been meaning to record some stuff with the rounds before I change them over. Maybe i’ll get to it before their 2nd birthday

I like the sound of “forever” flats. I’m firmly in the “replace when they break” camp! Besides, I doubt my ear is good enough to really tell the difference.

I’m intrigued by the TI flats. Any idea how they compare to, say, Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats? I have those on a couple basses and they definitely have some top end. VERY different feel from the La Bellas I have on my P-style bass. The La Bellas are super smooth. The Cobalts are smoother than rounds, but definitely feel rougher compared to the smooth La Bellas. Of course, very different sound as well, with the La Bellas being the traditional deep flat sound, while the Cobalts have the intent to sound like a round.

Very tempted to check out the TI flats.

I recommend TI Jazz Flats over all others I’ve tried.

TI strings, flats or rounds, are excellent. Their round cores make them easy to fret, and they feel great under the fingers. On top of that, TI Jazz Flats sound great on my EBMM Cutlass P bass.

Cobalt Flats is quite similar to many brands and models. I’ll put some video comparing the two types a little later.

I have those (TI Rounds) on two basses, which are the basses I play most, and I played both of them quite a bit over the past year. Both sets of strings are now over a year old, and they still sound great to me. I will soon change them for new sets and I am sure I will then hear the difference (i.e., that they are brighter), but I don’t feel they lose a lot of what I like about them even after a whole year.

Yeah, OK, this may sound like I am retroactively justifying these expenses, but all things considered, it’s absolutely worth it for me.

Quite famous for this is (was) Jeff Andrews:

Rocket Music (no affiliation) has TI Jazz Flats for $78.99 shipped. Still pricey but more in line with what I’ve seen them selling for before.

I’ve picked up my TI Jazz Rounds Super Long for about 70 bucks on sale, tax included. They go on sale every now and then.

The thing is that they last a long time, which is plus on top of their great feel and tone. With TI, you get what you pay for.

I’d suggest having a quiet chat with some of us on the other side of the pond. Over here I get TI Jazz flats for around £50 (currently around $66). That’s just a touch more expensive than I can get La Bella Deep Talkin flats here.

I’ve bought TI Jazz Rounds (shipped and sold by Amazon Global Store UK.) through Amazon USA for as low as 66USD. With sales tax, it totaled 71.44USD.

US vendors sell them for around $90, before tax. However, they are often discounted a few times a year.
