a modern rendition of one of the great Leo Parker’s tunes - pure joy
The great Steve Swallow, Gary Burton, Pat Metheny and Danny Gottlieb. This must have been a great show.
Falling Grace is such a cool tune, with its circular melody alone…
Been a fan of Wes since the ‘70s. First 29 minutes: Pim Jacobs - Piano, Ruud Jacobs - Bass, and Han Bennink - Drums.
Speed DOES matter . . .and i´m too slow
Yeah, I ought to love this… but, somehow it leaves me cold… I don’t know; maybe I am getting too old and cranky
It’s too much of everything, especially on bass, and really more wanking than music. The tune only gets interesting in the final 30 seconds.
The technical mastery and level of skill is impressive; musically… I am not so sure.
(This, of course, is my personal opinion, influenced by my (current) musical preferences, but, to a degree, also tainted by my own inability to ever pull off anything even close like this
)
The taint is real. But even more so are musical and performance stylings.
Vincen is a young, accomplished musician. But possibly primarily, he is a dynamic artist who has come of age immersed in live and digital environments where he must “perform (bombastically) or perish.”
In any event, he is a phenomenal bass player with chops few humans could ever equal, regardless of one’s preferred style or performance sensibilities. In short, whether or not he moves you, he’s a bona fide badass. ![]()
Absolutely love his custom BB though
It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Thing)
Great! Another thread to spend a week going through. : ) I didn’t really discover Jazz until 1988, while living in Tampa FL. There was a great jazz radio station there, and it became my main station for years. Sadly, that station was reformatted and Tampa lost its only jazz station at the time. Luckily the shows didn’t stop. I’ve seen the PMG 3 times, last time being in Utah.
Been a fan for decades. His first album “Bright Size Life” is still my favorite. Pat, Jaco Pastorius and Bob Moses. So good.
I just came across Alfa Mist. The future of jazz (and jazz rap) is in good hands. Another lady bassist doing a wonderful job holding down the low end. ![]()
