GAS can be a terrible thing, can't it?

As an aside, when they do their coupons, they work on Schecter  One of the few brands it does work on :joy:

The Billy-Bo is freaking amazing. It’s an excellent choice as and end-goal bass

Hard to find here, but I saw one in the ESP custom shop. Totally cool. I also love how ESP carries other brands in their custom shop because they know they have nothing to fear from the competition, but that’s another story

I can up my budget if needed. Maybe a Roscoe, high end Warwick or Spector. I jus want a bass that wows in the looks dept and slays in the sound and playability arena. I have a problem. When I start something I keep adding and adding better and better. I used to ride mountain bikes. I had 6 at one time and a touring bike. I started with a cheap Trek and then got a Specialized Enduro, a Titus Motolite and eventually the best I could find, a $6,500 Independent Fabrications 29’er Single speed. I tend to do this. A fault, I know. But I love it

Looks interesting but for whatever reason, I tend to associate Gretsch with Brian Seltzer and I cannot stand that type music. I would listen to classical before I would his playing, even though I realize he is a legend.

Definitely try a Warwick before you buy. I was convinced I would love them until I bought two in a row trying to convince myself I did. Second one was a mistake, first one was I turned a profit on though.

What was things you didn’t like on the Warwick?

Simply the feel. They make fantastic basses, just not for me.

And this was after I tried them in the stores; I made the mistake of convincing myself I would like something that didn’t click right away.

Also really reinfoced to me how bad an idea it is to buy instruments sight unseen, because that would have taken away the chance to have felt the red flags that I stupidly ignored

I associate Grestch with AC/DC

Great to know. For some reason the Ball Family Reserve series make me drool. I would hope they play and sound as good as they look. On the subject of a custom, I am a fan of instant gratification. I couldn’t wait for a custom to get built. I’d go nuts!

I understand. I know they are rock legends, but my taste were always to stuff a lot different.

Me too!

OK that’s where we differ

I actually don’t agree that a custom is a good idea in the first place. Quite the opposite for me. What happens if you don’t like it? You can’t try them first, and I’m not dropping $4k on a speculative buy like that - I would need to be sure.

I’m really leaning towards a super amazing Bongo. I love the aesthetics.

I absolutely love the look of Bongos - way more than Stingrays - and I really like the MM sound. But I would need to try one first.

They check off a lot of my boxes though.

A purple sparkle with a roasted neck. That’s the one that would make me wet myself

Ha, just saw there’s an outlet selling a Billy-Bo for $2400 near me. Too steep for me but not bad for a new Billy-Bo.

They do. Love mine.

Agree here. I think you really have to know what you want to go that route. Resale isn’t always the best either.

I just like saying “bongo.”

Yeah. Even knowing what I wanted I would still never do this. It’s a different equation if you’re a rock star and can make them change things you don’t like later
