Yeah, that looks killer.
Small but MIGHTY.
I bet it sounds great, and looks really sleek.
I do like the Port-a-Flex by Ampeg, those are just so nice to look at, and the PB’s also look so cool too, but this one, it really says something, like “on yeah, lets rumble”
What does something like that cost?
Hmm.
I just sold my Squire Vintage Modified Special P bass, that I blacked out, and put in new volume and tone pots, but left the Duncan Design pick ups in.
I paid $120 for the bass, and it looked like hell.
Buy the time I was done with it, about 2 hours later, I stripped it, and cleaned everything. The fretboard was so dark, it looked like dirty rosewood, and after cleaning it, it was maple and clean, but that is how dirty it was.
When I was done, it looked really cool and played really nice. I put into that bass, probably 4 hours total labor into it, and maybe $50 for parts, if that.
So, I sold it for $375. Not bad all things considered. $120 for the bass, maybe $50 in parts. lets just say there is $175 cash and 4 hours labor invested to get a $200 profit. Not bad, $50 an hour.
I am selling my LTD FRX-ARAYA (Slayer) bass tomorrow. I paid $250 from profits of other acquisitions I sold above what I paid for, so technically, that bass was free. I put on a set of DR Red Devil strings ($25) that I had really bought for a different bass a couple weeks before I got this bass so I used them and replaced the stock knobs with Skull knobs ($10) with red eyes (cuz with skull knobs and red strings, yeah, it is sick looking). That would be a total investment of $35 in the bass I have it listed for $450. My asking price is due to demand. I have only seen one of the model from this era for sale locally on Offer Up, or nationally on Ebay or Reverb., and I bought it.
Occasionally there is the newer model with a different body shape and matte black finish as opposed to the gloss black on mine. Mine is from the first years that Tom Araya had a signature LTD bass, so this is where I get my asking price.
The buyer has offered me $350 and a Tone Hammer pedal.
At first, I didn’t want the pedal.
1 - it will be something that takes up all my time for a week, just playing around with it, when I should be doing other things.
2 - I could easily sell it on Reverb for $150 (making my sale $500)
Or he offered $400 cash. $50 more in the hand, but losing potential to make another $100 in profit. What to do.
BUT,
Here is the problem with Reverb. for those that have not seen or heard, listen up.
Reverb now tracks sales, and if you sell anything over $600 in a year, they will report it to the IRS, and you need to do an I9 or add it as supplemental income on your tax forms. THAT IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS, but its true.
So
Lets say I sold that Squire for $400 on Reverb, and then reverb takes the fee, and I get roughly $375 sent to my bank from reverb.
Then
I sell the LTD Slayer bass for $450, and get roughly $420 sent to the bank from Reverb.
So, Reverb reports $850 to the IRS.
But
I made a profit of $200 from the Squire, a profit of $120 from the LTD, and my total take home (put in the Bass Fund) is $320
So
I now get $800 reported as income to the IRS when I really only made $320 in profit (or income).
LAME
Back to my Issue. I paid for the LTD with profit like I said, $250, and put $35
out of pocket, so $285, but I will round up to $300 cuz I am sure I missed something somewhere.
I have 2 offers from the same guy.
1 - $350 plus an Aguilar Tone Hammer Preamp / di Pedal
or
2 - $400 cash
Me,
options 1 - I take his $350, add to the $375 for the Squire and have $725 in hand AND take the Tone Hammer to keep / sell / or trade. (potential to get $150 and end up with $875 in hand)
or
option 2 - I take the $400 cash, add to the $375 for the Squire and have $775 in hand (but no Tone Hammer with potential to add $100 to the Bass Fund)
I have the Tech21 VT Bass Preamp / DI, plus some other pedals with EQ and DI on them, and I don’t think I need or want the Tone Hammer (unless its an EASY SELL for $150)
This buyer has it listed on Offer Up for $150, and nobody has bought it for a while, and it is a REALLY GOOD price and the pedal is in great condition
SO
I can’t rely on Offer Up to sell it, and there is REVERB, but then if I sell it and other stuff during the rest of the year, I will reach the $600 level, and be reported to the IRS (and we are not on good terms at the moment), so I don’t really see it as an EASY $150, and doubtful I would have it right away, might take months.
I know the SMART THING to do would be to take the $350 and the Tone Hammer Pedal, I mean $315 profit is already really damn good. and the added pedal worth at least $150 is not bad.
But, not really wanting the pedal or the hassle of selling it, I could always take the $400 cash and a profit of $365 right now (but not have a chance for more money with the pedal, just the cash only)
But
do I take the $775 and call it good work (no pedal)
or
do I take the $725 cash and the $150 minimum pedal and the potential to have $875 cash in hand.
NOTE, I am looking this as my bass fund, so less the $235 out of pocket means the Bass Fund is + $540 , or + $640
Suggestions, I have about 14 hours to decide. Tic Too Tic Too
Oh yeah, @Koldunya , back to the question, How much was that? I have other basses up for sale, and if I get the asking price, thats another $400 to the bass fund, ($940 to $1040 possibly)
As long as I sell less then $600 of it on Reverb, I am all good. I will check Ebay to see if I need to stay under $600 there. Hope not.
I can’t forget the Yamaha SBV-550 that I will profit pretty good on, but if I list it on Reverb, I am over $600 with the one sale. (plus IDK what to ask for it, I know its extremely rare, especially here in the States)
PLUS
I am also in the middle of modding an SBMM Ray4HH that I am making sick AF. When its all said and done, I probably will just break even, or find a good trade, I do that more for fun, cuz its a complete rebuild (except the stock Preamp) with 2 new pick ups, custom black pick guard, black bridge, control plate, knobs, string tree and tuners, and an adjustable black nut. I know doing these projects is often not really profitable, but it keeps one busy, its fun, I learn a lot with each bass, and something like this won’t sell much higher then a stock one, even with 2 new pickups. Buyers don’t often like to pay ABOVE sticker price on a new one, even when it is souped up big time. (plus I got the bass for $220. I mean, practically brand new, but a few years old, sitting un used, but retail is $429 or $459, and GC gave me open box for $220)
I don’t need any amps @Koldunya , but that thing looks so bad ass, I could almost get rid of some of my SWR’s (that I know I will make a great profit on, cuz I have so little invested in them) just to get that DarkGlass of yours. SWEET.
I hope to see it in more pics.
I hope to hear it in some covers, or sound clips.
