when you say CPU load is this amp CPU?
Meaning when you run out of amp processing power your effects chain is ended.
Yeah, the amp has a DSP in it and I can add effects, like a multi-effect pedal. The Suite app tells me how much load there is, and how much the given effect itself uses.
…it’s also about as weak as a $100 Zoom Multistomp apparently
Honestly I expected more DSP horsepower. Companies keep cheaping out on DSP power and the chips are not that expensive o.O But then they can sell you another one when they release something with more…
I think it’s more that Doug wants the power users to buy a Quad Cortex from his other company
So, the Alpha-Omicron distortion sounds absolutely crushing on heavy guitar. So, I got a new guitar amp, too… I knew the B*K ODs sound nice on guitar when using my Strat with my B7K, but it was not the best for “heavy” sounds. So yay XD
That’s kinda anti-GAS o.O But I’ve almost always used my guitars through my bass gear. Only once have I had a dedicated “guitar rig” tbh.
Also, put the cabinet on an old appliance dolly I found in the garage, so I can wheel it into my closet for protection from smol but cute predators…
Keep in mind that the quality is much better of the effects. That’s also one of the reasons it needs more DSP. There is really no point comparing a Zoom B1 Four with a Line6 HX Stomp either. In my opinion the difference is light and day but YMMV. Actually I have the same “issue” with my Universal Audio interface which can use about 2-3 UA plugins before it runs out of juice, but at least I can buy extra DSP units for more power. Don’t see a reason why Darkglass should offer extra power units tho.
The Helix can handle about 6-8 blocks in the chain depending on which effect you use. If you use the new poly effects it will cost you 4 blocks of DSP power. Quad Cortex is an absolute beast if you really want a lot of DSP. So is the price lol.
Yeah, I love the AO distortion circuit. Pretty much all I use for playing bass. It sounds okish on my 6 string standard tuned guitar. My Revv hi-gain pedal sounds a lot better.
I was really, really close to buying an A/O when I bought my Microtubes X. It was a tough choice.
I can imagine. The Microtubes X is amazing too. What I really like about the A/O is the fact that you have two different OD circuits (which can be mixed). Alpha is punchy, tight with a lot of definition, whereas Omega is simply brutal and raw.
I was using a 7-string guitar tuned to drop A. Getting some speaker breakup via IRs helped, as did EQing. It wasn’t what is often called “bedroom sound” but more of a “this might actually sound good live or recorded” sound, and took a bit to dial in.
In other news, I am now interested in cajons. I never knew what they were before; I thought they were smallish wooden blocks for drummers lol, not fairly large boxes the player sat on and fitted with snares or guitar strings on the inside. They appeal to the finger drummer in me.
What’s the difference between recording in a bedroom into a DAI then DAW as opposed to the recorded sound you’re discussing?
Oh, it’s just a term for “this sounds bad ass (practicing in my bedroom, with my band, sounds like ass when recording it, though)!” and not recording in a bedroom
I was trying to describe that the sound I was getting was very… defined? In “bedroom sound” we often use way too much gain, for example, especially on the preamp/input stages. It sounds fantastic when just jamming and practicing, though!
I wanna put purple knobs on my new amp (and want/wanted to on my B7K). These knobs are called 1510 Davies pointer, and most of them are 6.35/6.4mm (1/4") shafts with a set screw.
Naturally, Darkglass uses 6mm splined shaft pots. I can find tons of these knobs in 1/4" shaft, and that should work fine with a set screw on 6mm shafts. I can find them in 6mm but still with a set screw (le sigh…) but not in purple lol. I did find some 6mm in the UK for under 5GBP but then it’s 17GBP+ for shipping to the US lol. I’ve tried eBay, Ali Express, and occasionally weird/sordid/dedicated knob manufacturers/supplies.
Somewhere, the bass gods are laughing at me.
I bought one.
It is useful for holding things on top of
If you find purple in 1/4", just wrap some thin strip masking tape around once or twice to make up the difffernce for press on, works like a champ.
I’ve considered something like that and felt like it might be inviting things to go wonky/weird angles. But you gave me an idea though; the teflon tape used in pipes to seal them when you screw them together. Super thin, gets into all the crevices…
AH, yes, I have used that too.
I have this under some vintage Fender F knobs on my HMT that I changed out the electronics on. No issues.
The masking tape I actually used in tuner bushings when I had a slight mismatch in bushing and hole from Hipshot.
Maybe. I’ll look into it. Thank you.
Caroline has just finished the journey with Abbey Road, what a great watch from first to last album and all in between. Thanks for the tip @Never2Late !
