GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

I kinda like it when you’re addicted to a brand, it means that you know how they design their stuff and it suits you

yes I own more than one Vox …
yes I own maybe 5 Marshall …
yes I own countless Line 6 …

Fender ? 5 or 6 I think … not counting the Squiers obviously …

Oh my!

But I agree on the brand thing. Zoom really has toys to tickle my T-Spot :fire:

I don’t have that for any other brand yet!

I totally get you. I have a thing for Peavey basses.

I like this Sire Marcus Miller M2 in pearl white. But I do not need another bass, let alone a 4-string. It has a paint chip though, and the temptation to try for a deal is strong :joy::sweat_smile:

The dreaded Dark Queen saga continues. In our last episode our intrepid bass player sent the tracking info to the Sweetwater machine

In today’s episode they get a response.

“That’s perfect”

What does it mean?

Welcome my son to the machine.

Well, so long as the computer didn’t say “Nooooooo” there is hope.

They say it is all sorted and they’re working on it now. All hail the Dark Queen. Tremble at the depths of her harmonics

After playing my M2 through one, I have a great need for kinda want a MarkBass 121P.

For now I ended up saving a preset on my Darkglass head called “Marcus” and colored the LED for it that darkish yellow of Markbass stuff :joy:

A 121P and DG112N would be a very light 500W dual 1x12 setup, though.

I have a question and don’t know where to put it. The question is: I have a chance to buy the following bass and I don’t know if it is worth it. I am a beginner but have finished Josh’s course.

Fender deluxe active jazz bass, model 014-5700-331, vintage 2014. Body from okoume hardwood. Pickups are dual-coil ceramic noiseless. Active electronics. Controls include volume, pickup selector pan pot, treble boost/cut, bass boost/cut. The cost is about $900 Canadian.

Great bass, here is the price history from Reverb…

Hi Joe. Up until last year these models could be had for $600 to $650 CDN and they were not hard to get. I remember seeing 2 on Kijiji for quite awhile. Now I see someone wanting too much for it at the $900.

This is unfortunately becoming way to common on our side of the border. I have seen Fender Blacktops and Zones basses going for $900 to $1000 when up till last year could be had for $300 less.

Unless you really like that model I’d stick to the standard models and save a chunk of money which you can put towards something like new pickups.

Whatever you buy make sure its in good condition and not another scam. I have seen a lot lately. Make sure there is no cracks and big dings especially on the neck and frets/ fretwire. Make sure the truss rod works and the nut isn’t stripped. Make sure they have not installed a shim between the body and neck.

If you have any concerns just drop a line. I am sure there are a bunch of us that can give more advice from our experiences.

The price seems high; last year you could buy a new one for $900. It’s an interesting bass, a PJ with a P body and Jazz neck. The neck is what makes it attractive to me.

It’s been around since 2005, so to me it’s a standard model. Okoume is fine for a body wood, PRS has been using okoume for years as have other manufacturers so that’s okay.

Looks okay for everything except the price

If you are into “tonewood” then iirc it “sounds like mahogany” if you are not into tonewood, it won’t matter

The Dark Queen is an elusive lady, she still has not shipped.

Sweetwater has dropped the ball here. The status shows “waiting on items” but everything is in stock. They charged my card, which they don’t do unless they have the items, but still waiting on something. My sales engineer said Friday they were working on it Friday, but how long to install pickups?

Something is off and I don’t feel I’m getting the full story.

Life is an adventure.

wwbw.com (part of GC) has issues with the online updates of statuses at this time. I have an order that does not even show up in my account that they keep assuring me I am in line to get. when they do send me someting manually on it, the price does not reflect the discount they told me and still say is there.

I also just received an email today from Home Depot stating my screen doors were in and my pickup date is March 29, 2022. It’s April 5th.

Net/net - systems are a mess, don’t trust them.
Go with the flow.
