GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

I was being facetious  I don’t think Sweetwater does much business with/in Europe…

Weirdly they do not block Japan

Actually, I just tried from here (DK) and it works just fine

Maybe it’s not Sweetwater. Perhaps it’s your (delete where appropriate) wife/husband/partner/children/family/bank manager/financial advisor?

my XTone Pro arrives tomorrow. I am excite. I discovered yesterday that one of the guitarists in my band has a Quad Cortex and I was immediately jelly lol. I’ll have the poor person’s Quad Cortex with my XTone and iPad/Bias FX 2

I should just ask him “Can I borrow a little DSP, pls?” and run my bass through a second channel :upside_down_face:

This morning, I was getting the exact same message as you (also from The Netherlands): “It looks like you are currently offline”. Which makes no sense, as the fact that I’m able to view this page on their web server proves that I am actually online.

Anyway, right now I’m seeing a different page: “Error 403 Not allowed - Varnish cache server”. Must be something on their end. It’s definitely not (just) you.

Also known as “Yurp”, a country on the other side of the Atlantic. Denmark is its capital

Maybe Sweetwater are huge Austin Powers fans?

I’m torn between getting a MOTU M2 or a SSL2/2+. They each have pros and cons.

Why did you choose the MOTU over all the other DAIs out there?

Because “Mark Of The Unicorn” is a genius brand name.

SSL plugins are really really good tho… You only get a vocal and drumstrip plugin with the audio interface and a bunch of other stuff. Not sure if you get a registered owner discount for the other SSL plugins @Howard? The 6 months trials is a bit meh.

Also having the knobs on top or front was actually a big deal for me. I prefer top so for me the SSL2+ would be the winner even if I do like the aesthetics from the MOTU better.

I had a tone hammer for a very short stint, got it in a trade knowing I was going to then trade it.
It was a good pedal, but I like tge VT bass better. I think its more flexibl

That said, I know its a lithle more, but tge Steve harris Fly Rig by tech 21 is suber diverse and gets some awesome signature sounds as well as tour own creations

@MikeC I had 2 main reasons:

but also:

  • bonus point for display
  • reasonable price

Thanks for sharing your thought process. @jacq.

Yeah, the MOTU M2 has a lot going for it, although the SSL2 2+ does, as well.

The SSL2 2+ also features low latency, an impressive legacy, and I like its controls on top and cable connectors in the rear.

That said, the MOTU M2 definitely looks sleeker and cooler overall, and it is less expensive.

I think I might be talking myself into something here.

You make a good case for the SSL2 2+, @Paul.

I like its top-mounted controls and rear cabling, although neither are deal-breakers for me.

I know I can’t go wrong either either a SSL2 2+ or a MOTU M2. That’s what makes the choice tough. At this point, the relative bang for the buck of each contender starts to loom large.

What sample rate snd buffer size are you running? Can you notice the latency at all?

I love the sound i get through the Motu M2. I liked it better than either the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen or the PreSonus Audiobox USB96 25th anniversary. All gave a better sound than my untrained ears ever expected but I heard something special in Motu M2 that made me keep it.

All three have the same problem. The side mounting of all the parts you want to look at or want to adjust is inconvenient when it’s sitting on a desk.

If money wasn’t a factor, I probably would have gone with the SSL 2+ just for the convenient design.

Thanks for the feedback, Eric. Very helpful.

Yeah, the top-mounted controls of SSL2 2+ is a very compelling benefit, for sure.

Well, crap. Back to Vacillation Land.
