GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

Maybe my memory is failing me. I for some reason recalled that Jack Cassidy bass being short scale. I could be wrong. Happens all the time. Ask my wife!

It’s a bit confusing. It looks like the Epiphone bass was released in 98 and was 34" scale. Based on the Gibson Les Paul bass. The Gibson started out as a short scale then went long scale and then went short scale for a one off run. So that’s maybe where your confusion comes from.

Anyway it’s not important.

Ok, so planning on getting a second bass. Was chatting in another thread about a Sire V5 which is still high on my list but in my research I see G&L Tribute L-2000 getting recommended a lot. Checked out some reviews and I just can’t decide between the two. I was also interested in the satin seafoam squier 40th anniversary while it was 359 at sweetwater but I didn’t pull the trigger before the deal ended.

I played a G&L Tribute a while back at a music store. Killer pickups in it and sounded huge. I have read that the Tributes are built elsewhere but finished and set up in the US.

I don’t know how much Sweetwater can discount but you can buy direct from G&L

Best deal i see anywhere. Same electronic as the made in USA

This is a massive savings compared to Sweetwater’s listing. Thanks for sharing! I’ll check with my rep to see if they will match as it would be great to get their inspection and warranty with the purchase

The one on the ad is B-Stock. May be why it is so cheap

Yeah I see their whole stock is clearance and most of it is sold out. Unless I get it now it probably won’t last and I don’t want to impulse buy either

Well time to jump to conclusion lol.

L-2000 is great bass, and nice that it is active/passive. A lot of usable tones out of that bass, and it definitely has it’s own voice. The people in Fullerton already went through the bass they are selling, not sure you would get any better service from Sweetwater.

I have this one for sale on Reverb.

It is such a great bass but too much for me and my go to is a Mustang. That is the reason why I’m selling it. I’m just learning for the fun of it and I’m not planning on playing professionally or in a band. I’m not sure this is the right place to talk sales but if you are interested perhaps we could work something out outside of reverb. Cheers.

Fellas, since Im not too experienced with amps, Id like to ask for your sugesstions/opinions.

If you listened to my covers you have an idea what sound I’m after.
I think 10 inchers would best suit my expectatio s. I would want it to be not overly expensive, and as light as possible. Combos or cab + amp are both adequate.

Locally I have options for MarkBass, Ampeg, Fender, Blackstar, Marshall, Peavey, Trace Elliot.

Right now my favorite is Trace Elliot ELF.

Also opinions on Hartke HD500?

MarkBass would be good option if 102p combo wasnt 900 euros.

Are you located anywhere in the US?

Nope, EU but not EU

Great choice. For gigging you might want something with a bit more power but these small form factor amps are really handy and versatile.

All the brands you mentioned are fine. Hartke is great too. Peavey would be on the bottom of my list. It’s all very subjective.

I humbly disagree in a small way. Trace has had several instances of problems with the small amps. Peavey’s are built like a tank, have good tone, and generally are cheaper. I have had both and still have the Peavey. It is one of my back-up amps. It even sounded much better than my GK Backline 115.

It’s all subjective @EddieJones

I’m not saying the Peavey is a bad choice, it’s just not the sound I personally like.

I would recommend @Growl to try out different amps in the store and see which he likes the most.

You are right. He needs to check them out himself.

FWIW, Peavey now owns Trace Elliot.

FWIW when the huge selection of cheap Class D amps were flooding the market a while back, lots of companies were having duds. I have heard of problems across several brands at the small/cheap end. I had to RMA an amp from TC myself (and I try not to judge them too harshly, as unlike most people, I actually love Behringer )
