GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

The most difficult decision is getting amps in the $300-600 range. They are so good and doing it all in the personal space and small gig.

Tougher yet is the $600 to $1000. Now you can do combo, head and cabs. How much power how loud and form factor, small big, boxy or slant.”

Once you get pay the $1000 and upwards things gets easy to very easy. Especially above $1500. It gets bias and personal.

“If I had this many monies in my pocket, I don’t know what I’d buy!”

That’s a horrible lie. I would buy this. Just popped up on my local…

That is a pretty cool bass. I have never been a huge fan of the Mockingbird shape but love the body pattern.

Welcome @matt.g.ward.esq . Good to have you here

It’s exactly the other way around for me :joy:

Me too

Love the shape, burls I can only do if tinted Ibanez-style.

@Growl the Rumble 500 is a 210 and reasonably priced.

Oh thats good suggestion!

I’ve been on a 5 string and burl top kick. Also been looking for a double p mockingbird. Had no idea it existed in one place!! I’m smitten… not sure enough to sell my stingray or bb1200 though. It’s in the same ballpark price wise.

If you have a BB1200 in good condition, that’s gonna be hard to replace… just saying

Stingray you can always buy again (ouch, but true).

Yessir I do. It’s pretty amazing. The only thing that would make it better is if it was a bit lighter.

Yeah, that’s the BB curse

Both the 1200 and the 1200S are amazing. It would take a lot for me to part with a good one. When Yamaha stopped production of the 1200S, Peter Hook bought seven spares and has used one on everything he has done in the last 40 years

I’ve passed over opportunities for other models because at the time I only wanted 4 strings and only the p pickups. Now that I appreciate preamps and 5ers, something like a 5000 would be great except they are the price equivalent of land on the moon when they pop up. :man_shrugging::man_facepalming:

Found a G&L Tribute L-2000 on reverb for a nice price that I pulled the trigger on. Should be here later this week. I keep watching YouTube videos on it. Very excited

Does it count as GAS if I followed the one in and one out rule? 6 string Ibanez went to new home today. Really enjoying my five strings and was missing my old EB3, so I traded the 6 and a sub synth pedal for… The Red October.

This is post chrome polish and setup time. Strings aren’t awful so I left them on there. I think they’re GHS Boomers because of the silks. I could be wrong. Happens all the time. And it is named aptly because of the horrible neck dive these are known for. I’m gonna need a bigger suede strap but… that sound and feel is so unique. So after Christmas… Hipshot tuners. Hipshot bridge. Black ice fuzz circuit in one of the tone selector positions, and possibly the old preamp out of the Sterling…

Pretty tight on space in there. I’m thinking I could route a battery opening under the pickguard. Plenty of room and then I even have space for 2 batteries if I do an 18v system. So, what preamp would you put in this bass?

That looks really tight for space.
You ‘might’ fit a Darkglass tone capsule in there since it’s a modular design.

That would be an intriguing upgrade for sure! And I wouldn’t have to drill any holes for more pots either.

The glockenclang is awesome (but very clean sounding) and only has circuit boards on pots Vs a module.

It’s really great

They make one version with a concentric pot to save holes too
