GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

I’m totally with you there! Some of this music gear has the greatest brand and/or product names. Glockenklang Steamhammer. Way Huge Swollen Pickle. Or, of course: the Moogerfooger.

Glockenklang makes great stuff. Among the best I’ve heard.

I have a tone capsule in my Dark Queen and I like the sound. I would do it again

Just had a visit from FedEx and had to carry a Boss Katana 210 bass amp up 4 flights of stairs. It’s a beast (23kgs in the box). I will be selling a Hartke HD15 practice amp and Zoom B3n multi-fx pedal, so if anyone is interested?..

GAS is creeping up again. I have quelled my GAS for a Christmas bass, that is until yesterday. I watched a Low-End Lobster “Best of 2022” video. (BTW, the Harley Benton PBass rated #1) But coming in at #3 was the G&L Tribute Fretless. He thought it was awesome. I do not have a fretless so went to Sweetwater site with every intention of buying one, and it is sold out, none in stock. I was able to suppress my fingers tendencies to look elsewhere for one, so consider a bullet dodged.

Well, they certainly don’t focus on Webdesign
My Sandberg VM4 came with a 2-band Glockenklang preamp with active/passive switch. Passive mode works even with battery failure.

I have a HB PBass and it is terrible build quality, worst I have seen.

But G&L are nice

Yeah that video is a great example of why you can’t take Lobster reviews seriously. He needs to stop. He also rated the Joe Dart bass as one of the worst of the year, in the same video that he called out the HB as the best. Just let THAT one stew for a moment.

Seriously, the guy seems like a nice dude that could have a great bass modding channel, but as long as he calls what he does “reviews”, sorry… bottom tier.

I had a Kiloton fretted that was good quality, it just couldn’t give me anything my G&L L-2000 couldn’t. Great quality, fantastic bridge, and fast neck.

It’s free shipping, I think you would actually be making money if you get it Eddie.

Good on ya, @EddieJones.

That’s a sweetie, @AnotherJosh. I think it would be a great addition to the @EddieJones stable. :smiling_imp:

This was the poorest excuse for a video best/worst I have ever seen.
As my grandfather used to say when I played “Where Have All The Good Times Gone” by Van Halen… “you missed them cause you were so damn high”.
I think this is Lobster’s basic problem.

IMO it would have made more sense if he made top 3 for different tiers. Like entry, mid, high. :man_shrugging:t2:

Hey. Whilst I am pretty okay on bass names, brands and models… I am useless when it comes to amps. What is that? That is gorgeous and small! I have been knocking around the idea of a Trace Elliott ELF but its only 200w.

That looks amazing.

I’ll let him answer but just say you will get to know and love that symbol

That Joe Dart bass is for serious players. I say that simply because its all about the fingers. No frills… love the look and the design. Joe Dart is a machine.

I love Vulfpeck and I love what Cory has done with himself in the last year. Cory Wong is one creative dude.

It’s a Darkglass Microtubes 500v2

Darkglass is quite a name in metal music, but it should not be limited to that genre. Here’s a nice video demonstrating some of the settings:

As I will only get the cab next week (hopefully), I could only try it with headphones yesterday. I really liked what I heard :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

So, over the last several weeks, I’ve become a bit dissatisfied with the sound I was getting from my Schecter Stiletto Custom 4 (dual EMG humbuckers, active, 2 band EMG EQ; too “honky” and midrangy) and my Carvin B40 (passive, dual jazz pickups; too trebley). After doing a bunch of research, I realized that the sound I’m looking for is the p-bass sound.

I discovered that Schecter makes a generic p-bass, the P-4. Having become a bit of a Schecter fan, I did a deep dive into reviews and anything else I could find online about it. There’s not a lot. The newer P-4 Exotic has more, but that’s an active bass which I didn’t want. Anyway, I took a chance on it, and it arrived yesterday.

Much like almost every other passive bass I’ve ever had, it came with shielding problems. So I fixed that. Other than that, it’s a fantastic looking and playing instrument, and almost nails the exact sound I was looking for.

I’ll take pictures of it for the “show us your basses” thread later today.
