That must’ve been not easy thing to do, since Sandbergs are pretty good basses.
But being a “P bass” with Jazz nut width is turn off to me. I dont think I ever saw Sandberg 4 stringer with bigger nut width.
Being a P bass with a Jazz nut was exactly why I got the Sandberg VS4.
It had a really nice sound, but it was modern sounding, not vintage P at all. I could live with that, as tone is easily shaped. But the neck profile was the deal-killer for me.
The thin contour of the body was also kinda weird for me. It felt like holding a Strat, no joke. Super-body-hugging. Still, I could have adjusted to that, but the thin neck, no.
I failed. I gave in to temptation and ordered another bass. So much for resolutions .
You @Shibata you, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Hey what did you get, lol.
I am.
Another one that 50% of the members here would probably place in the Ugly Duckling thread. LOL. Paul Lairat Sirya Deluxe.
Oh man! That’s just drop dead gorgeous.
Thanks. It has been haunting me for weeks. I finally caved. It was inevitable I guess.
I need to stay away from bass selling sites. I need to spend all the time I spend looking at basses practicing instead.
This looks very ergonomic but it functions like a regular body. I want to love Strandberg so bad as I love the looks but the ergonomics just doesn’t agree with my playing style.
Oh WOW @Shibata Just WOW
Look at the bright side, you made it 12 days. I like that bass, very unique looking. Careful, you may start the tonewood debate again. Let sleeping dogs lie.
Yes, The Stranberg’s look great. I have spent some time staring at the Boden. Have you played one?
When I was younger before I stopped playing, I managed a guitar store here in NY for many years. I got to play so many different basses that I developed a good idea of what feels good to me. So far every bass I have bought has worked for me. Of coarse I do have favorites, but could live with any one of them as my only bass.
Tonewood debate? Sound right up my alley. I must search it
That’s just amazing @Shibata
Yes I spent a few weeks at the very beginning of the lockdown while I was considering what to do. My friends has a couple so I took one. It’s a very light bass and well balanced. Like I said, the ergonomics didn’t go well. I’m not a headstock pointing up kinda guy I like mine fairly flat so sitting down the short horn is poking my thigh and standing up it’s forcing the light neck down.
I was also hoping for choices of pickups, I’m not a big fan of Nordstrand especially the Zen Blades. They are a bit too nasally for my liking I have the non customized model on my Chapel it took me 2 string changed before I could find a decent sound out of them.
Got it. I don’t mind the neck pointing up while sitting and playing.
Funny you mention the Nordstrand Zen Blades. I like what I heard from them. I have them being put in a 6 string I am having built.
I don’t any experience with that model, but I can speak to Cort quality. I had one of these… it is a GB95. It was an amazing bass. I am very biased towards Japanese basses (as I lived there for years and my wife/in-laws are Japanese) and still I couldn’t put it down.
The funny thing is that the Zen Blades probably record really well and would stand out in the mix but to me was very much like a modern take on signature Bartolini sounds. I blame this on the quest for P bass my taste seems to shift. I do like the Delano very pleasant tone to the ears. The short scale multi scale would have the p xtender pickups, I know it would sound awesome.
I have Bartolini J’s in one of my basses. The tone I get out of them is amazing. The bass has a composition neck and the combination is spectacular. My best sounding bass IMO. I spent a couple of hours playing that one last night.
That’s the winning pickup combination in my book the HS or J/MM. 2 of my basses have that setup and they are my favorite.
I agree. It is not common strangely. That Cort is one of the basses I wish I had not sold. It had a gorgeous spalted maple top.
