GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

It’s not cheaper here (200k JPY new).

Lone single coil pickup MIM Jazz bass would simply be a big fat NO for me but the pup is kind of cute. Need to ditch the tort and replace that pickup with a single humbucker of similar aesthetics, and sell it for ~$700.

I would be curious about the amount of customs to pay. 1300$ plus customs, but still better than 1800 for a MiM.

For BC, I think the sales tax is 12%. That’s 5% Federal and 7% Provincial sales tax. Don’t know what it is for Quebec.

Hard to get round it. So that’s $132 on an $1100 bass.

But that new Jazz Foil is $1800 plus the 12% tax so an eye watering $2016

Buying used to avoid tax is where it’s at.

To sum up my week…
Day 1: See bass I want online
Day 2: Look at bass online all night add it to cart…delete it from cart.
Day 3: Add to cart, go to checkout, exit check out leave in cart, turn off computer
Day 4: Spent tons of time almost buying.
Day 5: Make decision to place the order when i get home from work, turn on computer to see two other basses I really want have become available. Back to square one. which do I buy… I really don’t need any of them. LOL
GAS is so annoying

I don’t have one like that!… it’s a shame I don’t have a “friend” who’s buying one for themselves that allows me to live vicariously through them with their experience and excitement…
One day @Wombat-metal you too can have a room that looks like it was designed by @John_E (no offense to @Al1885 , John’s environmental taste is sublime) and we can revel in your bass-on-rug photos. I like this place.
cries in the corner because he’s getting rid of 15 instruments

Maybe this’ll quench the GAS a bit!?!

Wow that’s horrible. If I paid that much and that’s towed up that would be the last Fender I ever bought MIM.

When you look at pictures, there’s a lot of room for error on the E string now is there?

Not sure I follow, but to me, it looks pretty bad on those photos. Let’s hope that was a “monday lemon”

I looked back at the blue one in the Fender photo, the string sits in the same place. That’s crazy.
It’s almost like the pickup is too small.
That aside the pickguard around it looks a mess on the tort one.

This post on the talkbass thread speaks volumes …

Honest question - has anyone NOT had problems with these? It seems like every post about them is reporting problems.

I looked at some other pictures and it seems common between the basses. This is from Sweetwater, one of their actual basses

Same thing

Fender makes a bridge, you see it on some 50s basses, with grooves on the top and allows you to adjust how the string sits over the pickup

So easy to fix, but should work out of the box. Seems like a design flaw

That photo was airbrushed lol. We hate lobster, ha ha. This is surprising for MIJ.

Edit: My bad! I thought this is MIJ it’s MIM. Wow! Still very shocking. Nothing short of a recall would fix this problem.
