GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

@JustTim On the headphone problem with glasses, my headphones do that to my ears too. YMMV, but my solution is, with my glasses on, to then put the headphones on, and then move/tilt the temples (earpieces, arms) up so they are not being pressed. It will probably depend on your eyeglass prescription and type of lenses, but for me (I have progressive lenses) it works. I can still see through the lenses without distortion, and the ears don’t hurt. Sometimes I forget to move the temples, but after a while the discomfort reminds me. :eyeglasses:

I use Yamaha HPH-MT5 & Philips SHP9600’S

Both are cracking headphones, at a great price!
Yamaha’s are not as comfortable as the Philips, but not uncomfortable either, and sound amazing!

Philips are really comfy and sound great! Can quite happily wear these all day long no problem with the glasses. (open back though, so if noise leakage is a problem, maybe a no go :man_shrugging:)

Both are great for £85 (~$100?) though

I was sucked into the “gaming headsets” thing for a while, so I understand the discomfort, never again! :joy:

Less than 48 hrs wow. This is a pretty awesome bass love the color the extreme highs and low is quite unique. I spent some time on a Dolphin pro but it has a set of flats on it, which is a sin really, lol.

I spent about 20 minutes on it so far I’m impressed with the tone.

Nice looking bass.

Are you sure you have enough room for it?

Basses are like beer. There’s always room for one more.

Paging @Shibata

Not sure if this is whale enough but it’s hand-crafted and pretty darn cool looking.

That blue is something else Al! Absolutely stunning!

Now this is interesting, a Relentless (think Billy Sheehan) PJ set. New from DiMarzio.

Wonder how this would sound. Does the Dark Queen need an upgrade?

Oooh, interesting. My Charvel has been my first interaction with DiMarzio pups, and I really like them.

Which one is that, again?

My black sparkly Charvel with the Darkglass Tone Capsule replacing the stock preamp

Oooooh. Yes, you need those pickups. NEED. Specifically for that bass.

I’ve been meaning to ask you about the Darkglass Tone Capsule in yours. I pulled the preamp out of mine - it was broken - so now mine is passive only. But I like having a pre-amp in my Dimension, and have been thinking going passive might have been the wrong decision. Was the Darkglass worth it? Would you recommend it in my Charvel? How hard was the installation? Given that I know how to solder but I absolutely hate doing it (note: software engineer who initially went to school for EET); is it something I could put in without a lot of issues, or should I send it off to someone for it who doesn’t hate soldering as much as I do?

Not that I’m committed to installing one, I like the “no-mod” Charvel. Just something I’m mulling over.

I would definitely do the Darkglass again. I did not install it, I bought the rig at Sweetwater and they installed it, the only tricky thing I think is the push-pull for active/passive doesn’t work with it, that functionality was lost, a worthy sacrifice for the Dark Queen

If you want to do it to your Charvel I would support it.

The DQ absolutely needs the Relentless P/J set. JUST DO IT! The Relentless and DG would probably go together like peas and carrots.

This is the Gear Enablement Thread

Yes, I originally thought I had escaped GAS. I read this thread. I slowed down just enough to be caught by the GAS vapors. Silly me, thought I had the will power to say “NO”. (BTW, G.E.T is a great acronym for this thread)
