Well, this probably won’t be cheap
Thanks all - I thought I’m done with GAS (at least for bass and amp) now being happy with 40th Anniversary Squier P and J and the Ampeg RB210 (+Ashdown 112).
And now this Marcus Miller Z7 makes me want yet another bass…
Which would be the 5 string addition to my stable; assuming it’s “wide” but so far couldn’t find the string spacing data (to have ~similar spacing between the strings as the standard 4 string does for comfort). I just wanted to focus on pedals and now we’re here, dammit dudes!!!
Would love to hear a sound sample of the Z7. I’m really interested in one but curious to know what to expect. Will it sound like a stingray or like other HS configurations
Edit: managed to find one recording on youtube https://youtu.be/RZ8oLAedbg4?si=THUjUuO-cvyErV84
really wish the blue or the sparkle black from the Z3 were available on the Z7
I haven’t found it, but everything looks (and says) standard which would make the string spacing 18mm, contrast with the standard 19mm on a 4
Well, I had an Ibanez SDGR305 and felt too narrow, now checked: “Bridge: Accu-cast B125 fixed (16.5mm string spacing)”
My J and P are comfortable, they’re supposed to be 19mm. From 19 to 18 looks to be much more friendly than to 16.5, right? Or should I skip on GAS (spending the money on some awesome octaver and/or compressor to upgrade the Behringer to MXR for example) that’s what you’re sayin’?
This is why I do not like most 5’s. I just can’t jive with that string spacing on bass, I like the nice and wide 19mm.
The string spacing on the Z7 5-string will almost assuredly be 18mm.
But then have you tried 18mm 5string as well? Is that so bad? I mean the 16.5 is not for me, I know. But never had an 18mm spacing version in my hand so far so not sure.
18 is fine for me (on 4’s, would be on 5’s too.) The 5 string Yamaha BB’s are 18mm and I would probably like them.
18mm is fine for me. It My EHB fiver has adjustable saddles, +/- 1.5mm spacing on each string, but I’ve never felt the need to take advantage of that feature.
It’s not cool of Sire to release these Z series basses right after I finally got my V5. Now I’m all GASsy again.
They need to do a Bongo
Well only one thing you can do then… give up and give in.
I mean… There’s no such thing as having too many…
Is there any good reason to obscure a serial number on a classified? Or is that automatically an indicator of sketchiness?
Edit: this specific one priced well below others: Schecter Hellraiser Extreme-5 Active 5-String Bass 2010s - | Reverb
Probably not that big of a deal, I often do selling stuff on ebay too lol.
More the state of the chrome that would bother me tbh, I’m a fussy git
I’m not really in the market, but for $400 less than other options I could figure out a new bridge and still come out ahead I think.
I do want to try out a metal head active pickup bass long term not just awkwardly at guitar center.
I got my hands on a MOD dwarf, b-stock :
Very nice and easy to use, provided that you swiftly fight down some mysterious ground loop (which was easily solved for me with the MOD community and a groundless power supply from amz). I’m still experimenting with it for now but it feels sturdy, nicely thought, with a world of possibilities.
