GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

Hi guys - I am shopping strings, could anyone identify the set that came originally on my Sire Z3-4? Took pictures hoping it helps:

Thanks for kind support!

Very likely D’Addario nickel round wounds (the colored ball ends are a give away). There are a few different possibilities from within the D’Addario catalog, but probably the XL variant. As for gauges… that is difficult to see; you could measure them

Why do you want the exact same strings again?? As opposed to trying something else??

My Marcus Miller V7 came equipped with D’Addario EXL170 strings (045-100), which have the same color codes.

Sire uses D’Addario strings on their new basses, as do many others manufacturers.

D’A mass-produces their strings, and no doubt gives factories steep discounts on quantity orders.

They are quality everyday strings, but not my faves for feel.

I had exactly the same idea of getting something else - but would like to know what it was (to remember because it was pretty OK but by now started to lose highs).
Interestingly enough I went for a set of D’Daddario EXP165 (coated nickel 0.45-.105) to find out if they’re as good as read (even though supposed to be discontinued? but nearby shop has them on stock).
Will hopefully replace strings later tonight and see how that sounds.
Thanks everyone!

Changing my setup again now that I’m running a separate head / cabinet. Added back in a full sized tuner (that i can actually read when I’m standing up at practice/gigs) onto my small pedal board.

Want to keep the same small pedal board, so thinking of selling the SGT-DI as it doesn’t fit and swapping in a smaller but nice preamp with Aux in and phones out.

So my practice space will be clutter free (everything but the BeatBuddy fits velcroed onto the board). I can practice daily using the board, but i can just unplug the whole thing for playing out.

Top of my list is the Palmer Pocket Amp. It’s 4x4 and ticks all the boxes

Anyone have any other suggestions that would work (4" x 4" or less, aux in / phones out)

I tried plugging back in my old ZoomB1 and it’s fine but I guess after playing the SGT-DI my ears have got used to a higher quality sound. The Zoom doesn’t sound great to me anymore. Sigh, the curse of knowledge.

That Palmer looks cool, would you give your opinion if you end up picking one up? Once I get my board bought and set up, I’m thinking of running a second preamp off of my GX-10 into my mixing board for funsies. As far as saving room on yours, could you use the built in compressor on the SGT or one through the Line 6 and leave the Cali off to save space?

The built in compressor is garbage compared to the Cali76 even to my untrained ears. Not even the same sport. The Cali76 stays

Fair enough, I don’t disagree to the extent that I run 2 seperate comps at either end of my signal chain rather using that crappy built in one. Actually, tbh… since I got the Boss I’ve been running my SGT with the preamp and SGT turned off. It’s just been a glorified DI box.

NUX Melvin Lee Davis Bass Preamp - had one, really loved it (but switched to the Ampero One), very decent stuff! Also doubles as audio interface. Plus cab simulation (preset + load your own).

Went to music shop to get guitar polish and a good microfiber cloth… I left with this:

That’s a serious mic.

I am pretty happy with my SM58, which is good because the condenser mic slippery slope is steep and fatal to the wallet.

It was 50% off!! ( my justification for the GAS! )

Sm58’s are a staple … and the mainstay… They were all we used on the road. This one is my desk mic in case I want to do some shout outs or just talk a bit in vids

My voice also does not deserve a better mic. My bandmate and I need a real vocalist bad

Yeah all audio interfaces do now, streaming is their main use case by volume

Cool mic, but your record levels are a bit low. You might want to boost them. :ear:
