GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

Sorry, mate, but have to politely disagree with you - it’s just not very pleasing (from an aesthetic point of view). If it were a light maple (like in @fennario’s pic), I could let that glide… but that orangey stuff…
Matching headstocks should be the law

Different strokes for different folks.

Personally I just generally don’t care for the look of matching headstocks. Though there are exceptions, as with anything. I know I’m likely in the minority there, but there’s no accounting for taste.

And I vastly prefer the more “vintage tint” look to the “unfinished” look of plain wood.

Our aesthetic preferences might be completely non-overlapping @joergkutter

I have a feeling that’s not entirely so… maybe for basses though :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

No problem at all, brother. Philosophically, I agree with you.

That said, the Z7 has a Roasted Maple neck, and its headstock, of course, takes on that color.

I dig matching headstocks on my basses that have them, but I also own some that don’t have matching stocks.

Given how often I spend time looking at any of my headstocks – which is next to never – a given color of any one of them is pretty much inconsequential. :joy:

While I like coikies’n’cream ill take the red bean any day, twice on Sunday, :joy:

It’s really tough to decide when you are hungry.

Burgundy all the way, looks much nicer to me IMO.

I think burgundy is the nicer color, and had pre-ordered a burgundy when it first came out. I cancelled it because of reasons, but my sales guy said that wasn’t a worry; there were no other pre-orders for burgundy other than mine. But white had sold out.

So for the OPs question, white is still my thought

If buying to flip, sure. If buying to keep? Not for me

My impression is she was nervous about if she didn’t want to keep the bass for some reason.

If buying I would buy the Z3 myself. Z7 reportedly the MM pup completely overpowers the J pup from the stuff I’ve seen. Z3 seems a fine product though

Yeah I wouldn’t even want the J on there at all TBH.

My color choice when I bought my Sterling shorty.

Interesting. Did anyone who made this observation try adjusting the heights to get them balanced?

Only the ones in “natural” have roasted maple necks . The rest of the colors get regular ol’ hard maple.

I believe BullythaKid was one, so yeah they knew how to do a setup. I don’t know if they tried or what they tried but Bully is pretty fair about these things

Most humbuckers will overpower most J pickups. But this is not necessarily a bad thing as the J can add subtle definition and clarity, which are definitely not the strong points of most humbuckers.

You don’t need to hear a J sound to get something out of having one; I simply don’t want one on a ‘ray or Bongo.

@joergkutter -what do you think of this-custom pickguard, plate for buttons and a headstock plate to cover up the ugly headstock colour? Oh la la

hey @wombat, the ops survey is just trying to get a feel for what people like and IF I was ever to resell what colour would be more popular.

I really really like the simplicity of the Z3. However, the Z7 has some upgraded attributes for less than the cost of better tuners for the Z3

That’s fair. I went with a Sterling Rayss4
