I wound up selling my Z7. Just never could develop a relationship with it. Solid bass, the buyer loved it. I didn’t anticipate how much I would dislike the tension of the low B on a 34" scale.
I had a jam with a buddy the other day and he brought along an Ibanez BTB806MS. That’s a 6-string multiscale bass with a 37" scale at the B and 34.5" at the C. I made the mistake of playing it.
Do I need a 6-string bass? Absolutely not. This bass sounds so incredibly good, though, and despite having 6 strings it was very easy to play. It feels incredible.
He bought it on a lark, influenced by my foray into the EHB line. He’s focusing on fretless now in anticipation of a very nice custom build that he’s commissioned, and is willing to part with it.
So, at some point in the future whenever we manage to get around to it, I’ll be picking this behemoth up:
Yeah the regular BTB is 35” scale that on its own is fun. Looks-wise it’s dramatic multi scale, but not too practical unless you play all of your chords below 12 frets. When the frets move to the other direction fretting multiple notes is much harder.
If I get another 6 string it’d probably be standard or one by *strandberg.
I was once in a band (as singer, before I took up bass) with a guitar player who told his wife he had to get a bigger amp because the other band members were making fun of the amp he had (which was totally not true).
I bought it and I really like it but I prefer playing my longscale basses so I decided to sell it but my wife didn’t allowed me to to sell it because she likes the colour…
Yeah. They are flubby on 34" basses, even with .135’s, in my experience. When I see short scale 5’s I always wonder how badly that B string must wobble.
