GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

And ?

Well, it happened again.
I went to the guitar shop with my son to look at amps.
Went to the bass section, they had a purple Orange Crush 50 (I had been thinking about the stock one) various other makes and the one I was interested in the Rumble 100.
Asked the guy I normally chat with for his opinion re Orange v Rumble, and he said don’t even bother with the Orange just get the Rumble and told me why-he said basically all the things that had convinced me anyway.
I asked him if he could match the price of another shop which was quite a bit cheaper and he said he would ask the boss.
Anyway I walked out with a Rumble 100 at the matched price.
I also walked out with alto sax reeds, a guitar strap and picks, all for my son.
The Rumble 100 is amazingly light and potentially very loud, sounds a lot better than the Rumble 25 (obviously) and the main thing is that I can feel it as well as hear it.
Pretty happy.

Well… gas, schmas (or however you’d say that )

By the logic of this video and having learned 120 songs, you should be ā€œeligibleā€ for roughly 40 basses

GAS is a problem, and it is more of a problem when you have funds (which us ā€œno-longer-quite-25ā€ guys seem to have a bit more of), and while it not directly helps you become a better player, good gear, and gear you love to pick up, can make all the difference.

Go for it, I’d say - you earned it (any which way). Mark at BassDirect (https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/) should have you covered

I only play my P Bass. My Fender Jazz bass project sits on the wall.

So that’s being sold and the SP1 comes in it’s place.

We don’t need any of this, but we will all die. So have what you want (if you can afford it).

Yes, there is an element of that, but I do need to restrain myself as I have an 11 year old….

And I have empathy with this sentiment. I am currently reading Die With Zero. This book makes the point quite forcefully…you can’t take it with you!

I understand completely (even though, or perhaps because, I don’t have one of those )
There are certain things that will always trump GAS… But, those things taken care of, the other sentiment applies :sunglasses:

The white SP1 looks incredible with the gold pick guard. The red looks really good too but that gold is one to consider for sure

I love the point he makes that ideally, the check to the funeral home should bounce.

Unfortunately for GAS, some of us have dependents - my wife will outlive me by a lot.

This is probably the opposite of GAS but I was just talking to the kiddo that’s coming out this week to visit and I’m going to be sending her back to Maryland with my Les Paul. She wants to pick guitar back up and I remember her playing it when she was 7 years old (she’s 29 now). Important to note, I now have another blank spot in my guitar rack. :sunglasses:

Excellent plan. The LP stays in the family, you get a new instrument to play soon.

There’s nothing that I want right now as far as basses tbh. I got that Valeton last week btw. I’m kinda pretty content, I still can’t put that Mike Watt bass down.

Yeah I get it, for me I’m getting down to the end of the list too. Two potential upgrades remain:

Swap out red SBV-550 for the Seafoamed Green SBV-550
Swap out red SBV-550 for a SBV-J2 if a good option turns up

…I think that’s it. SBV-800MF and BB-VIII are too good to replace, the BB734a is my workhorse and like the Revstar, if I sold it I would just buy another one later, and lol this being my fourth Revstar I have learned my lesson there.

Technically I don’t need two P/J SBV’s but I like them for different reasons. They do sound a bit different due to the different pickups, both sets of which are outstanding.

I don’t want to take it with me, I want to play with it now!

I wouldn’t mind looking for a mk II Wattplower somewhere down the line. Not to replace mine, I love the simplicity of the standard P layout on it. I’d like to try out the one with the 3 single coil pickups and that neck mudbucker. Just really not a fan of the root beer brown.

There is only one left to get…that damn KOA Aerodyne special edition.
I have no interest in other basses.
I do have an interest in selling a couple though.
The Frank Bello signature is on the chopping block, as well as the MM BFR and the traveller bass.
Will most likely wait until the fall when folks are starting to shop for holidays etc.

A part of me wonders if I really need two BB’s but then the rest of me tells it to STFU.
