I had an Evil, absolutely the best toy I ever had, we’ll maybe the big wheel.
A four-star one, at that!
@Barney - the Valeton GP-5 pedal in the review you posted is truly a great pedal.
It even says so on the display ![]()
100% had that toy as a kid. And yeah, he was not a good man.
I had that too! We jumped him into the pool a few times. I wish I still had him and the Six-Million-Dollar Man toys!
Ah yes, 70s electronics. Back when a television set was still a piece of furniture, and working on one could kill you.
I lived in NATO Ghettos most of my childhood & youth and spent every free minute with American GIs … when I did not make a fool of myself with failing at soft ball, American football or (even worse) basketball, I often visited them and their families at home, listening to soul and funk (which nobody else I knew really listened to, so that was a revelation) and generally doing all kinds of nonsense.
I remember their huge & loud speakers with a similar design. I always called it “confessional” design. In those years, nobody - except Americans - had such huge speakers at home.
I did not find God, and though I was not of the fan of that look, it started my love for big speakers … and bass you could FEEL!

I still remember the day my parents bought a 25” TV like this, ordered HBO and the first thing we watched on it was Mad Max under Thunderdome. It felt like living in the future.
…and you had to work on them because the tubes burned out.
I gave in to GAS.
The MiniFreak ticks all the Ensoniq ESQ-1/Kawai K3/etc hybrid synth boxes for me. I had the VSTi before too and it was great; this comes with it too and integrates with it. Should arrive today.
I needed a smaller MIDI controller so I sold my KeyLab 61; I was planning to go with a KeyStep Pro but then I realized the MiniFreak wasn’t a lot more, and I absolutely love the Freaks for their digital osc/analog filter architecture. Great arp/seq and effects on it too; they sound totally awesome.
I absolutely don’t need this but @howard it looks amazing. Proof again of how lucky we are re great gear.
I saw that and thought I saw a Wizard walk by
Totally!
It’s definitely casting it’s shadow and weaving it’s spell around my sound ![]()
now, where is my harp?
I don’t even know what that pedal sounds like: I want it on looks alone
got a live2 on reverb the other day. perfect timing on my part as the live3 is coming out in a few days and the market will probably get flooded with used live2’s this week
oh well. it really seems like a super cool machine and i envision it being my main tool to write music on, and then maybe transfering tracks to a daw for final polishing. the new 3 looks simply insane but i wanted something cheaper and hopefully simpler to start with, and trade up later.
Yes! The one with the tiny magnifying glass in the bionic eye and the big hole in his head to look through!
Does it doom?, definitely has some cool designs. As for the sound. With the knob turned down, it’s an over driven tube amp, warm and fat. Turn it up, it blends two pedals; distortion and overdrive. Here’s a link to a Giza pedal video:
I was in the Navy in 1993 and transferred to shore duty from a ship. one of the first things I did was buy a Magnavox console TV. I was so proud, it was a real piece of furniture. I lost in the following divorce! Much was the life of a serviceman!
