GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

Thanks, I custom painted it since the original Black finish was badly scratched up and I found it boring

I don’t need another reverb. I don’t need another reverb. I don’t need another reverb. I don’t need another reverb. I don’t need another reverb. I don’t need another reverb.

Damn straight. I didn’t need a $600 deep nerd audio interface tailored for my DAW. So of course I bought it.

I also don’t ā€œneedā€ that Faderpunk and yet dayum

I won’t be jumping into anything until after the furlough. I’ve got time to talk myself out of it.

its not released yet

Didja have to post this? Didja? It may be targeted to guitars, but I’ll bet a month’s paycheck (I’m retired, so that’s 0 € :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ) that my Mayones Cali 4 and 5 would sound great through it. Added to my wish list.

There was a Fender Gold Foil Jazz in the local shop recently. Knew morning about it, but it sounded really nice. Noticed it had an aftermarket bridge and I think I know why after some research. I know it’s not important, but that pickup was really pretty, but I couldn’t justify spending the money on what basically a standard Fender jazz bass with a trashy neck ( it was twisted). It’s also super heavy.

I have a Glarry that has a really comfortable body/neck and it’s super light. Unfortunately it sounds horrible and what sounds it makes depends on what mood it’s in that day. Sometimes it hums horribly, some days it doesn’t hum at all but just sounds extremely harsh. Other days it sounds dead and muddy

I don’t know that it will sound identical to the fender, but I ordered some gold foil pickups off eBay from True Custom Shop. I guess the Glarry will be getting a makeover soon.

Apparently it will be €650. Pre-orders open up on the 9th.

Clearly targeting modular but also works over MIDI.

I prefer my mods, to be honest, especially my triple 35TWX Humbucker monster

I like BassTheWorld a lot, namely ā€œTheBassFaceā€ Frank, who I could watch for hours playing

BUT: in terms of reviews they are almost always positive, and that worries me. Not everything can be great, and I would like to see more critical reviews. It’s more of a promotion channel with a very likeable Gregor and loads of great (and great to look at) bass players.

Also: if they have a Thomann / Harley Benton signature model, they are much too close to Thomann. That might put some commercial pressure on them, so how neutral can they be now?
It’s a very nice bass, though long scale. But that was a wrong move from BassTheWorld … I would not trust any Harley Benton review from them (anymore).

Gregor is pretty critical and he’s not shy about saying what he doesn’t like. But honestly, a lot of gear these days is just really good. That said, I always take reviews on YT with a grain of salt.

So true, and so much of it is really all the same wrapped differently.

As @Barney always says, we are living in a magical time (paraphrasing as I don’t speak Canadian  )

It’s true though. @John_E and I grew up in the 70s when consumer electronics weren’t really that great.

It’s pretty hard to find really bad gear that’s being sold these days. I mean here you go, for about $100, you get a tiny multi effects pedal with 100 built in effects plus bass amps simulations. A boss pedal is more than that for one effect. Is it perfect? No but it’s not garbage like this was.

It’s the golden age kids.

Fair point, but there was also this and it was awesome!

Side note - Listened to a podcast about Evil Knievel. Turns out he was a massive ****
