GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

How did it stack up against the L-2000 insofar as bridge pickup?

Can I assume that you’ve watched ‘Sound City’ with Dave Grohl?

No. is it about this topic?

I found this quite interesting, not all expensive basses too. I suspect there’s a variety of strings, definitely a couple with black coated strings but it’s a good way to hear a lot of tones back to back quickly.

I bet Nate Navarro can even make a twig with 4 strings sound good

He made this sound great shout out to Gustav at Lignum Art

No doubt. I suspect the big reason he made the video was to save himself time when called to do session work.

Update 1: Counteroffer remained so I have skipped the beaten Aerodyne (for 800).

Update2: But GAS is GAS - so I upgraded the Behringer BDI21 to the SansAmp BDDI v2 (see pic below before replacement) and a supposedly decent Cali76 (the infamous DemonFx Call76  ) is expected tomorrow. We’ll see, still couldn’t find the compressor to satisfy whatever I search, we’ll see :stuck_out_tongue:

Good thing you got the V2! The V1 is basically the BDI21

Well I know - just had a nice deal on this used v2 and at the end of the day it’s the real thing, right?

Yeah for sure, I got a used one too. One of my favorite preamps! Sansamp rules :sign_of_the_horns:

Yeah the BDI21 is a perfect clone of the v1, but the v2 offers more. Good buy.

To be honest I really (and I mean really) loved my sound at the gig through the BDI21, expect not more but at least the same sound and I’ll be happy.

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been regularly dreaming about these weird breakbeats, sometimes even hip-hop-like melodies (think: Meat Beat Manifesto).

I really don’t know where they’re coming from, and I’ve ignored them for long enough. My stupid, annoying brain is trying to tell me something, whatever it is.

The sound is usually beat- and (distorted) bass-driven and often gets stuck in my head on an endless loop, even during the day.

It’s hell, especially when it gets hip-hop-ish!

I want to do something about it now, and I just ordered a AKAI Professional MPK Mini IV (not an Arturia MiniLab 3, sorry @howard)

I have absolutely no clue about it, but I’ve learned that these things have keys & pads instead of strings… and lots of colourful lights and knobs.

My plan is to transcribe the stuff in my head, create beats and play the bass line using my bass guitar …. and than distort the f#ck out of it!

It does not really qualify as GAS, as this is more a remedy against earworms, I guess…

Hip hop based music is often bass driven and light on instrumentation. Here’s a good one that’s a little twisted but has a driving bass line

Yo! Is that really “hip hop based music”?

It really is, here’s another one

MPK’s a good choice too!

So … is this another one?

It’s a swiss dude

I must tell my hardcore Hiphop friends that Public Enemy, (여자)아이들((G)I-DLE) and DJ Bobo basically make the same music.

I am really looking forward to that, can’t wait
