GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

All right, SOB for now after Call76 arrived and played a bit with the settings (note that I had to partially cover the status LED as being extremely strong):

Now I have read about this but now I see how it’s being done: there’s indeed a gain reduction status LED string but soldered onto the board itself and literally invisible when using the compressor, need to find someone to put a jumper patch and place it to a more visible part (e.g. top cover by drilling a hole for this) or just leave it as it is…

Amazing but not in the best way

Sure, I will take the bait.
He is not saying it is hip hop, but hip hop influenced/based. If you wanted to be precise, you’d say:
Pop / K-pop track with strong hip-hop and trap influences.

A (euro)dance song with rap is not hip-hop either.

I might be injured, but the GAS burns strong!

Away for the weekend and a quick search of Marketplace revealed a Dingwall D-Roc for a reasonable price!

Oh yes, this thing looks freakin’ beautiful!

Somebody has to

DJ Bobo raps too, don’t know if he does that in the song I posted as I have never been able to listen to one of his “songs” for more than 10 seconds.

I’m quite happy that I didn’t dream any DJ Bobo stuff (or the other stuff posted here). I’m quite sure that I wouldn’t have ordered the AKAI…

But I very happy to be inspired to an interesting discussion with my hiphop friends, just for the sake of it. They won’t like my new insights

The sound of my dreams was more like this:

Ah, I just learned about “trap” - late to the party!

This was what I had to listen to, according to my Hophip friends:

Hehe I am sure they will appreciate it.

To be honest, a lot of music is influenced by other genres. Sometimes artists even mix two genres, like metal and hip-hop. Judgment Night is a good example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_FhUOpXz-c&list=PLq2_OrsJJtCsU_vDRfCulmPcBMYpVPV4Y

When I was more into electronica, I listened to Flume a bit for my dose of trap.

I loved the electronica era, which was for me: Underworld, Leftfield, Prodigy, Fluke, Bomb the Bass, Orbital, Apollo 440, etc. - all the stuff around ‘94-’96…

But the stuff in my dreams is really more like Meat Beat Manifesto, if they had done beats and distorted bass guitar with less BPM. Same dirty and overwhelming energy though.

I don’t know where it’s coming from, but I will make it my mission to create some tracks based on that sound with the AKAI!
(I have a stupid dream/nightmare earworm running around in my mind while writing this reply: MUST … GET … RID … OF … IT!!!).

They do live. I can’t remember if it was Jack playing it or not.

Is it yours yet?

Never saw them live. That description kinda sounds like Meat Beat Manifesto’s version of trip hop (I love trip hop).

Apollo 440, now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a while.

I absolutely love every album up through Satyricon (which I think is their best work). So good.

It’s in my brain now

In mine too!

The first track is already great to set the tone (Ba-dada-damm!)… and of course it has “Edge of No Control (Part 2)”, which was sampled by Consolidated for “Tool and Die” … an eternally true song, unfortunately!

My favorite Apollo 440 track:

Dammit, Ibanez. Why are you doing this to me?

Yeah, it took me some willpower to not reply on all those artists I grew up with.
