GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

I found a local Dingwall seller, I thought it might not be bad to try one out while I’m saving up. They don’t have any D-Roc’ in stock but have some Combustions. Is that going to get close enough to the feel to make it worth the hour drive?

I have both a Combustion and a D-Roc. Obviously, the basses look different in terms of body shape, but the other main difference is that the Combustion is an active bass (although can be switched to passive), while the D-Roc is passive only.

Both are fantastic instruments. The scale length is the same. I’d say the Combination has more tonal range - active / passive - so you can pretty much coax any sound out of it. While the D-Roc has less tonal variety, it is more rock ‘n’ roll!!

I haven’t posted on here in a while. My kit has been relatively stable for the last few years and I’ve been simplifying my practice space, but it’s time for a minor update.

Amp head is now the GK Fusion 800s

Cab is the GK 2x10 Neo.

I’ve swapped out the cab feet for lockable castor wheels and I’ve added a fold up bracket (sold as a headphone holder) which holds the power and instrument cables when not in use or when I want to move the rig.

Sounds great, is easy to store/move and very easy to dial in a tone with just the amp controls.

Nice set up. That Lakland looks great too. I wanna get my hands on one to try out some time. How do you like yours?

It sounds, and feels great to play. The only real downside is the weight, but it’s not outrageous.

That’s a gorgeous Lakland.

Beautiful! This model is said to keep always in tune, and probably it is light too, even though it’s a 5 string. Looks gorgeous!

Very hard choice. Both are beautiful!

This thread is a dangerous place to spend time. I want something like this! But I need to get a lot better before I can justify to myself buying a new bass. I’m drooling looking at these pictures. I’m not worth it (yet).

That bass is just so black. It’s like, how much more black could it be? The answer is none. None more black.

It’s a fantastic instrument. I’m still trying to get used to it. As far as deserving it, I think you’re mistaken. Get one, enjoy it. For starters, the M7 ( the model up from mine) sells for under 700 euro on Thomann right now. It and the M5 have the same preamp and pickups as the M6, the new headless multi scale bass from Sire. Those are going for 700 - 859 euro.

Thanks

Ibanez SR 3500 Prestige. It’s fantastic, had it since the 31st Jan and still in awe just how good it is and how it can sound. My other bass is the Ibanez 600 E which in itself is great but this is on a different level
