And I’m starting to see Carvin prices dropping while Kiesel prices are on the rise. I’m seeing LB-20s and LB-70s in sub $1000 prices (Reverb has a couple around $500-$700).
The TBS-4 was NOT in my price range. I paid arguably well more than it’s worth or that I’ll ever be able to get out of it. I figure I’ll make a cover of “I Can’t Tell You Why” or something with it, and then it will be an “oooh, ahhhh” kinda bass.

Yes, I am aware. 
I was in yesterday, and went to look at the Genz Benz stack that’s been loitering around. The redheaded-pierced guy was proud he’d pulled them out to play because they were the scariest cabs in the store. I agreed: Monstrous

They felt fine. Like the ones on my Ray5. It was definitely not tuned out of the box. Setup was decent, though, aside from a weird almost tinny sound on the open G string. Seemed fine when fretting a note, though. Ryan was thinking probably a nut or break angle issue on that string that they’d have to check out.

Making sense of my gear acquisition plan . . .
For context:
- My primary Bass is a Squier Affinity PJ with all of the electronics and the bridge upgraded.
- I also have a Dean Exotica acoustic/electric which I play occasionally.
- My current Amp is a Fender LT25 (8"speaker) with a built-in tuner.
- I play at home in a front room specifically dedicated to music.
- I may jam with a friend or two or three in the future, but I have no plans to join a band. I just love making music at home.
The plan:
- Upgrade my Amp to a Fender Rumble 100. I landed on this model after doing a lot of homework. In every YT video I watched about combos, this one was either at or near the top of the selections. I am about to pull the trigger on this; I already bought a Boss TU-3 Tuner Pedal in advance.
- After getting used to the new Amp, add an MXR M87 Compressor pedal.
- I am on the fence about a SansAmp preamp/DI. This pedal type falls on everybody’s “essentials” list, but I understand that the main purpose is to go XLR out to a PA (not needed in my case). Question: are the tone-shaping features worth the cost?
- I may also add another Bass within the next 3-4 months that has an onboard EQ.
- I will keep the LT25 for portability and so anyone coming over with a guitar has something to play through.
Up to this point I have been more focused on learning than gear, but I am ready to step up my gear game.
Does this make any sense?
