GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

The Fender Kingman was on sale at GC, so I ordered one and picked up today. This is the same bass that Steve Harris plays in some of the Iron Maiden Songs during the intro.

Ok that’s nice!! The thumb rest, is it move able? Or the pinstriped line is misleading. That’s a very interesting control layout for a classic look. How does it play? Chambered? Or semi hollow? Interesting sandwich body or paint design. Looks like an inverted Oreo, :yum: now I’m hungry. :joy:

Movable thumb rest.
Plays well, love the tones.
Full chamber.
Two-piece body with gasket. Plastic top (they call ā€œtea-o-glassā€ - fancy term for plastic but it’s plastic.

Ooo that’s a good looking bass. I’m actually really into hollows / semi-hollows myself at the moment. Is it a medium scale? How’s that massive humbucker - is it a bit muddy? Is it hard to set the intonation (like a Hofner I suppose)?

So many questions!

PS Damn that’s a lot of booze

Full scale
Not muddy, nice balance. Deep big tone. Piezo is actually nicely eq’ed as well - not brittle.
Yep like a Hofner.

PS - almost enough.

Very nice!

FWIW I thought I’d attach a pic of my new Jack Casady bass. I’ve removed the pickguard. Hollows are definitely the way forward

In the end I sold the Squier - it was a nice instrument to play but I just wated something a bit more … well. … like this. I made sure it went to a good home though

Just scored the Sonic Bronco short scale. Gotta say aside from blackened the fingertips this bass is a lot of fun to play. Punchy and crisp. I’d love some extra heft on the neck as it has this reverse neck dive action. There’s some 60 cycles hum going on but it’s not only not noticeable during the song it’s going to be modded with the Active EMG SA pickup.

My favorite pedal right now is this Joyo a/b switch. It can create 2 effects chains but what is really cool is you can connect a guitar to a and b and use it to quickly change between guitars on stage. The bypass in this case kills all signal to the amp so if you need to unplug for any reason there are no pops.

Also a and b have level knobs so if one bass is quieter you can change these and even it out.

This holiday season Imma do something to that shed. I just learned about the corrosion effect in that environment and it almost costing a friendship with another member here. I’d definitely won’t be put in the situation again.

@terb might know this one.

If you’re looking to buy a new pedal, I suggest some form of fuzz or distortion. Specifically, one made for use with bass.

  1. Chorus or Phaser
  2. Fuzz

because chorus in to fuzz is mind-blowing, as is fuzz into chorus

One pedal? I’d gone with Cory Wong Wampler compressor.
