GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

Yes, we had

For the styles you like, Jerry, the G&L might be the play, yeah.

That said the TRBX604 is just an outstanding bass and IMO looks a lot nicer than the G&L too. I can vouch for the pickups on the 604 being stellar and the overall fit and finish of the bass is IMO a step up from the G&L, assuming you like the look.

Both are winners, no question.

While you are striving to attain sainthood for making do with a single bass, you are still one heck of an enabler, Howard

Your recent ā€œdeep or wideā€ thread got me into a lot of trouble already, more than I care to think about… (of course, that’s all on me, but you sure provided a convenient trigger :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)

Sainthood for me, :imp: to the rest of you

Well done

I am considering to splurge about $500 into my SBV soon myself, for a stainless fret job and brass nut. And since it has a binding that’s gonna be another $80 or so.

One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It’s the loneliest number since the number one

Modding is upgrading.

GAS is acquiring.

Bassists be GASin’. :joy:

I fully enjoy enabling this as well of course.

So back to the topic at hand - you bought both, right Jerry?

If I take a quick look around here it’s almost double the price of what you pay in japan… :grimacing:

That’s an amazing price. Do you have to pay import tax? If not that’s awesome. That L2000 electronics and pickup is exactly the same as the USA model, the bridge too. If if we’re there I’d probably get 2

@Al1885, if you were there, Japan would make you Minister of Finance! :joy:

You would single-handedly cause a rebound of the yen. :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

Luckily, there’s the Fallout as well. Shorty with the MFD pickup.

Hahaha! You are a bad person

The G&L Tribute L-2000 is considered by some people as one of the best basses in existence.
If this one would exist in a short scale version, I would not think twice.

The Fallout is really nice, but it did not feel as good (I’m talking ergonomics, not sound) as my HB.

As I said in another thread, I will modify one of my HB’s to double Humbucker, as soon as I find a way to solve the routing challenge.
This must be done with the help of an expert, IRL!

And also: what (cheap!!!) Humbuckers to chose? So many questions ^^

My issue with the Fallout is more that the PU is right in the middle. I don’t think that’s really the best spot for their MFDs, no matter how good they are. I think the magic to the Kiloton is that they put it in the bridge position. It’s got an aggressive sound that never gets muddy. I’ve played an L-2000 and it’s pretty incredible how much you can change the sound of the bass to suit the song. If I were to upgrade my Kilo, the 2000 would be on the short list (by upgrade, I mean own both because I don’t have any intentions of letting that Kiloton go).

Middle is fine for me it’s kinda like a P bass, the bigger issue is the length of the bass. It’s nearly the size of the L2000 for a short scale is bad.

Yeah! You made me look at the G&L web site to see if I can get their Humbuckers. I can. I could.

I will have a look again when I have solved my routing issue. My plan would be to just put the Humbuckers at the orange position:

Why not get the SB2 MFD pickup set. They are just crazy good. The middle pickup is the same but the bridge pickup needs a bit more space than Jazz pickup.

But that’s P/J, right?

My P/J adventure has ended. I’m happy with the result … but now it’s time to ride the Humbucking dragon!

Then consider Fishman Fluece set. That is the tone lord.

You are also a bad person

This?

FIRST I need to solve the routing challenge. Don’t have the skills, don’t have the tools. Don’t know anybody who has both, locally.

I’ll try to find a German BassBuzz for carpenters, ā€œHammerBuzzā€ to get into that topic ^^

EDIT that is one crazy and very tempting pickup!!!
