Never heard that tune, Choke. Primarily quarter notes. Should be a piece of cake.
I just have to get the run at speed … everything else is dialed in
you know the drill … learn slow … then speed up
Big win today! The band was having some friction. Chatted with everyone - Drummer and I were totally solid together, no issues there.
Decided to split from the couple who were our singer/keyboard and rhythm guitar. No hard feelings, they just didn’t have the time and energy to devote to things. The band had gotten stuck in a rut of only playing the songs they already knew.
Had a chat with our lead guitarist about some issues - and worked things out nicely. Mostly it was simple miscommunication and bad fit between him and the singer.
Put out a call for a vocalist who could also do rhythm guitar or keys… and got a response same day from a guy I already knew from playing D&D!
Situation resolved within 48 hours!
Amazing.
Congratulations!
If things don’t quickly escalate towards some version of Dio, Blind Guardian, or Amon Amarth, I’ll be both surprised and disappointed.
Be the space wizard you want to see airbrushed on the side of a van.
The first original song I’ve been working on is totally in that speed. First stanza goes:
As I rose 'bove the tree tops
Above where the sky rots
And the gods spread blood
Under my wings
(…but we’re actually leaning more towards being centered around New Wave stuff.)
This.
This is my new battle cry.
Don’t forget your wizard robes and pointy hat next time you make a guess appearance in a BB video!
indeed, however, living in two cities 5 hours apart for 50% of the time each makes this even more challenging, so happily playing alone vs. nothing at all. Rochester has a zillion musical folks, many are friends, so maybe some colabs in the future…
@Whying_Dutchman, Gotta say my dude, kinda weird.
Hey, making music is about sex, drugs and rock’n roll! This day proved it.
Being kind-of straight edge, I missed out on the drugs though…
Nah…
I guess you’re not a Prince fan then?
Or Garbage…?
It was more like this:
While the non-climax part was like this:
Only difference - more BPM, but ok, this is 2025. Everything goes faster nowadays
Good bass day:
Was in the office today. A colleague is also a bassist, so we each took an instrument in and had a bit of a bass-off at lunch time.
At the end of the session we each offered the other a bit of a critique. Not in the ‘you suck’ mode, more here’s something to work on. Given that we work well together and respect that each of us is on a journey, the critique is sincere.
Anyway, I have something to work on, and for that, I am grateful.
That post was like being mugged in a multi storey car park.
Wrong on so many levels.
Fortunately for you, you haven’t heard the half of it.
Yeah - I imagine our puritan grand parents at a Led Zeppelin gig, ca. 1969.
They play " Whole Lotta Love". After the gig, grannie goes to Robert Plant, and complains: “that was wrong on so many levels, young man!”
Face it: most songs we play are about what happened yesterday at our neighbours, not about watering the roses in your garden and drinking a tea with our aunties.
Nice to know: I just learned, that “Whole Lotta Love” was based on “You Need Love” by Muddy Waters. 1959!
Man, those musicians “nowadays” are truly perverts … we should all stop making music and watch Teletubbies instead
You’re trying to make this black and white but I’m pretty sure there’s a whole spectrum of color between tea with Grandma and getting your voyeur groove on and playing along to it.
The dirtiest recorded song I’ve ever heard is a blues song called “Shave 'em Dry”, originally recorded in 1924. Nikki Minaj has got nothing on how dirty this is.
I still ask myself, what “backdoor santa” is about???!
