Does anyone have any experience or opinions on this brand, I’m contemplating putting this on my Ibanez. I would to black it out as much as I can starting with this and the knobs.
Gotoh is known to make quality stuff…
I wasn’t able to find many good reviews but I was getting that they may be good, just wanted some opinions before I buy, I haven’t been into bass but just a few months. Thanks for the reply
Gotoh makes good bridges and tuning machines. You can buy with confidence.
Good to know, I like the look of it, since I got a second bass recently I want to try to modify my first one a bit
Not that particular model, but I put Gotoh on several of my basses.
I almost exclusively use their bridges and tuning machines now. Top tier.
I have this bridge (404SJ) on one of my basses. Love it - look here:
Don’t get the 404BO. It looks similar, but it has some issues with intonation, at least on my basses…
Thanks for sharing those are some beautiful basses you have there! I appreciate your advice! The car wrap for the pick guard and control plate is brilliant!
Thank you!
If you have any questions: feel free to ask. I went through many many MANY iterations to find the right solution.
By the way: you can solve the intonation issue of the 404BO by shortening the screws about 1-2mm.
I did that. Unfortunately, some screws don’t fit the threads perfectly after, and installing the bridge becomes tedious. So you need to be careful if you want to do that.
The 404SJ is much better … and cheaper too!
EDIT I especially like the effects on this car-wrapped pickguard:
Did you have to modify the SJ?
No, I could use the SJ as is.
The bridges are great, but cause screws don’t go completely through the saddles, you don’t have so many degrees of freedom with intonation. I had no issues with the SJ (so no cutting/replacing screws), but it might be different for your bass.
Again, it’s easy to cut the screws and also it’s easy to replace them with longer screws to get perfect intonation. Just be sure to cut the screw cleanly…
Just try it!
Here you can see the issue:

Still, I prefer the first option(SJ), as it is top loading, which makes changing strings much easier…
I did see others say that about the sj, some said the brass ones were better sound wise. I’ll think it over and sees, I appreciate your input, I’m glad I found someone who has a it of experience with them!
To be honest I did not notice a sigificant difference, tone wise.
Strings and pickups determine the tone much more!
Awesome! Thanks for all your help!
I have one on my JJ Burnell signature custom. Great bridge.
Glad to hear a few opinions on here, do you have the steel or brass?
