Housebreaking a new/used bass

So I am in the process of adopting a shelter bass, I found at a non-local shelter(pawn shop) on the west coast. (Luckily it was a no kill shelter!)

It’ll be a few days until it arrives but I’d like to do what I can to get the house ready for the little gal and help her feel at home in her new surroundings.

The shelter listing said this stingray bass had a few homes before me and they weren’t sure if she was completely potty trained. She may have some visible scars.

I also have to make sure to properly socialize my new bass as my old bass can be grumpy at times due to age and the fact that she’s had surgery a few times.

Anyway, just hoping someone has experience with this situation and can offer their advice.

My wife tells me, “you gotta stop taking in these stray instruments”, but one look and I just want to adopt them all!

We all do :grinning:

I think we should consult @Al1885 on this one to get an expert opinion.

My sister has a Taylor guitar that she bought in the early 2000’s. It was a $6000 guitar at the time. She had took it from California to Hawaii to Spain and to the desert in Utah. After about 10 years or so her husband said he would buy a newer nicer guitar for her because her old one had some issues or maybe it was just a Christmas gift or something. Anyway, she took her old guitar to a shop to get serviced and to look for a new guitar. The shop owner told her she shouldn’t get a more expensive guitar until she learned how to take care of her guitar better (I think mostly keeping it in a climate controlled environment.) Ten years later and she still hasn’t bought a new guitar.

My point, if I have one, is that I’m glad our solid body basses don’t require as much TLC as acoustic instruments. Most of my basses are worth less than $400 too.

This was a pointless post, sorry.

For a few decades I was kinda like that. I own a few high end ones and gigged with 2 cheaper ones. I think only have 6 in total with 3 in playing rotation until 2006 I got the first Nathan East. That was that till the lockdown.

Well many of you know the rest of the story,

Yeah it’s a stressful subject right now. We are definitely sniping both puppies after this.

Hahaha wish I would have known I would have got my pet from you

Ooh sorry I thought we were still talking about basses. I hope all is well with the pup!

Yeah! Thanks. Luckily her puppies took to bottles really well and that’s lighten the load of her mom and she’s getting better little by little each day. It’s lot of work, we took the puppies to work with us so we can one, feed them throughout the day, and two, separate them from their mom so she could stop producing milk and speed up her recovery.

Just get a nice soft padded hook on your wall for her and give her a safe place where she can oversee the whole room without feeling threatened or be surprised by other inhabitants.
Well done! You’ll be the patron saint of abandoned basses :innocent:
This is not GAS this is welfare :face_holding_back_tears:
