Well the weather has been pretty miserable since I got to Chamonix at the weekend but the last two days we’ve had a really big dump of snow and today the weather turned good. So we were finally out “shredding the pow” in sunshine. Far too busy having fun with the skiing to take any photos though, sorry!
Chamonix is GREAT! I went snowboarding there when I was young and beautiful once…
Try sledding too - you can rent them there, and I heard it’s best done drunk!!!
Few things aren’t!
I’ve come out here every season for 3 months for the last 9 years (skipping Covid when it was closed). So I guess I’d agree with the GREAT assessment!
3 months? Yeah! Are you a cool snowboarder or just a ski guy?
Skier; I do a lot of touring/mountaineering on them. And I’d say there’s no where better. As some ‘proof’ I bumped into and was chatting to Glen Plake (go google if unfamiliar) on a lift a couple of days ago and he’s here for the whole season.
Ah, what you call “langlauf” in Germany? The parents of my girlfriend are real langlauf freaks. They are east german and did biathlon in the good old days of the iron curtain, preparing to hunt us westeners on skis with a rifle
I tried it once, but I find it unnatural to have a board for both feet each. I also have a picture of the only 5 seconds I was standing:
Glen Plake looks like a snowboarder!
Not quite, that is what I call nordic. I do Alpine touring, main difference is that the heel can be locked down or is left free when walking/climbing, also the ski width is more like that of the downhill skier. Glen Plake might look like a snowboarder but is very much a skier and something of a legend.
And as you do every year, you sent your snow to us (across the strait).
Keep your high-end harem of ridiculously fine basses nice and toasty, Josh!
35+C here today, very burny outside.
I mowed the lawn this morning as it needed to be done and nearly died.
We have hot weather and lots of storms atm so the yard becomes a jungle quickly
39C in parts of town yesterday, then a big storm that knocked out a lot of power.
Australia is either on fire or underwater.
I don’t know what’s going on in the East with all the Summer storms. In Perth it’s mostly early to mid 30’s (celcius). I think we’ve only had a couple of scorchers, and unfortunately a couple of bush-fires (with loss of power) but a very mild Summer for the West so far. Stay safe over there
Sounds good, I grew up in Perth for a few years and I remember very hot summers.
We are getting hammered with heat and big storms almost daily in Brissy, Sydney usually gets worse storms and the central coast gets washed into the sea on a regular basis.
No big fires atm tho.
Pushing 60, uncommonly blue sky for winter, typical February. Either snow or warm usually with rain
Weather here be psycho lately, with large temperature variations. This week more mellow than last though, so far anyway. It’s only been two days.
We’re surrounded by the ocean and mountains, weather is never on an even keel. I get it.
