How to play this part

I am a beginner bass player and i find this hard to play because Im not quite sure how to mute the semi-quavers when playing them so quickly. They always resonate when i want a clean and staccato-ish sound. And the fingering seems a bit dodgy as well. Any advice?

Welcome. I am not sure I am qualified to answer your question but will try it later on.

thats alot of finger rolling :), dont know about any other secrets for muting than the standard ones, lift off the fret while still touching the sting, going to help to have more fingers touching the string, specially on fret 8 where you get harmonics, can also use plucking hand to mute….

but apart from this is just practice, muting can be hard, I’m figuring out pick playing atm and am struggling with muting consistantly there

P.s. dont know how good my advice is, I’m also new, and have a feeling I’m badly possisioned on the dunning-kurger curve at the moment.. :sad_but_relieved_face:

As a beginner, you would. If I don’t say it someone else will. Practice.

You may want to head over to Introduce Yourself! (2026)

That’s a really hard song for a beginner.
If you love the song and put in tons of time, you’ll get it eventually.
But it’s using all kinds of things that I usually save for 4-6 months in of private lessons and regular practice.
The string skipping at that rhythm is hard.
